Need some help.

What was the name of the dive bar on Harrison Street near St. Ambrose back in the late 80's/early 90's that was a small, $2.00 pitchers place with the pool table that was hard to play on because 1 side was so close to a wall. Was it called The Hilltop Tavern or something like that?

The Harrison bar that comes to mind(and they were all dives) were...

Stickman's
Dave's Golden Nugget(directfly across the street)
The Tri-Lighter

I'm sure there were more, though I do t recall the "Hill Topper".

All were seedy as hell, but would get all of the local cover bands in the 80's/early 90's. I remember seeing the likes of Lynn Allen and Natty Scratch at those venues.

IIIR, McButt's is/was also in that same neighborhood. It was a popular place for high school kids with fake IDs.

I just asked my wife, who grew up in D'port and went to Ambrose. She claims it was called the Tiptopper. I used to frequent that place myself in the '60's and I recall a sign out front with a top hat on it.

One of the real entertainment centers from yesteryear
was the Village of East Davenport. When Fast-Pitch
Softball was King.....There were games at Lindsey Park,
Afterwards the fans, the umpires, and the players would
all hit the pubs, bars, taverns on 11th Street or Mound St.
No bartender ever asked for ID's, because if you paid for
your beer, then you were a welcome customer.

Bottom Line: Those doubleheader softball games were
part of Americana.

Lute,

My dad used to play fastpitch at Lindsey Park in the 60s. IIRC, he played for Buckhorn Tap. He echoed the same statements as you wrote. Said it was a great time and a great scene.

The Uptown. We used to go for the 1.75 pitchers. Loved that place...and then walk down and shoot some hoops at McButt's.

Thursday nights at McButt's you could fill any size cup for $1.50. Used to have guys bring in gallon milk jugs and the bar would fill them for the $1.50 price. Used my first fake ID at McButt's as an 18 year old high school senior. The ID said I was 24 and from What Cheer, Iowa. Still remember the guy's birthday and SSN (which was on the license at the time).

Ahhh the Uptown, think Sharon was the owner, biggest issue was the people playing Piano Man 20 times a night because they just got out for the night.
