He has been leaning to Purdue for quite awhile, after their beat down of the Buckeyes that probably makes him a lock for the Boilers.

I also think he will be leaning heavily to Purdue. First, sounds like he already was a Purdue lean, but secondly he has to be watching Moore's season and thinking "I can do that too".

If Bell chooses Purdue, it will be fun watching Iowa's DBs shut him down the next few years . . . if he pans out for our hated rivals.;)

If I was a WR, I would want to play in Purdue offense.
The question is how long that O remains in place.

My vibe is that the PU admin will be trying to lock Brohm is as their next "Joe Tiller." They'll throw the bank at him if they have to. If they don't ... then he's potentially gone.

It sounds more like it doesn’t matter what Purdue tries to do. They just have to hope Louisville doesn’t come calling.

Brohm entertained offers last season. If they finish strong, more teams will come calling.

Um Petrino is not getting fired
That is correct. And if you add in what Brohm's buyout at Purdue would be (I don't know what it is), Brohm jumping to Louisville just ain't gonna happen. I live near Louisville and read the Louisville Courier-Journal every day. The athletic dept is a train wreck, ditto the administration.

That doesn't mean that Brohm wouldn't go somewhere else for enough money. But it won't be Louisville.

I was thinkin' Auburn.

Purdue is a flash in the pan they currently have a player that can light it up but once he's gone or hurt its back to the cellar for them. They don't have a proven year after year winning mentality/system.

They’re coach is really good. As long as here is there, they’ll be a tough out.

You should take a look at their recruiting before making a statement like this. They are ranked ahead of Iowa on 247 with 3 four star recruits, all of which are on the defensive side of the ball.

Back to Bell, isn't it interesting that he is taking some of his visits to other schools when they are playing Iowa, and Iowa is his last scheduled visit. Without Barkley and McSorely (next year) Penn State's future success is questionable. Meyer at OSU is questionable. Brohm at Purdue is questionable. Iowa is consistently good, and stable, and with the recent infusion of young coaches is trending upwards again. And, having productive pass-catching tight-ends pretty much insures one-on-one match-ups for receivers. Maybe Iowa's chances at landing him are not that bad.

You should look a little closer at those rankings yourself. Iowa also has 3 four star recruits, and a higher average star raking for the class at this point. PU happens to be taking 23+ guys at the moment where Iowa is looking at a smaller class. Same deal with ISU, Minn, and a bunch of other schools that Iowa would be ahead of in average star ranking.

Regardless, Kirk has a proven track record of developing talent. Still pretty early to tell with Brohm.

This doesn't validate your flash in the pan hypothesis.

If Ferentz started the year out like Brohm has, would the Hawkeye faithful be saying he is really good?

Didn't both Brohm and Fitzgerald lose the kind of games that Ferentz gets crucified on here for?
Yeah, but thrashing +O$U erases all of that.

Yes, for certain. Brohm is a very good coach. Purdue had recruited okay with some decent athletes under Hazell, but was as poorly coached a team as there was. Brohm and his staff quickly changed the culture and got them to 7 wins last year. They did lose a ton off their defense, which showed up in the early games. That said, 2 of the early losses were directly attributable to stupid personal foul penalties late in games. They outplayed Eastern Michigan and Northwestern by most metrics but found creative ways to lose those games. Then they lost to Missouri on a FG as time expired where both teams put up 600 yards of offense. They had a good win over BC, then won at Nebraska and at Illinois before piling on Ohio State.

When you are in the margins like Iowa, Northwestern, Purdue, etc., you are going to be in close games because your talent doesn't dictate that you can just overwhelm teams. And if you make mistakes/stupid football, those can turn into losses. Northwestern is a prime example of that Good enough to win at Michigan State and play Michigan down to the wire, but lose games at home to Akron, lose by 14 to Duke, and take miracle rally to beat a winless Nebraska team and a fourth-quarter rally to knock off dreadful Rutgers.

My point is I think Fitz, Brohm and Ferentz are all good coaches. They generally do more with less. They are what guys like Fleck and Lovie Smith wish they were in the Big 10 West, but so far have been unable to do.

They were a good team last year as well and they appear to be getting better every week this year. They aren't established but they don't appear to be a flash in the pan either.
