David Lynch dead

Eraserhead was stupid. I don’t care what anyone who pretends to be a movie snob says.
Perfectly encapsulated the feeling of a bad dream. Incredible piece of art. (yeah, not everybody is going to appreciate it)

Stanley Kubrick called it his favorite film of all time, reportedly, and I understand why:

In the late '70s, Stanley Kubrick directed The Shining as an unprecedentedly surreal, terrifying, and complex horror film. With a special blend of mystery and suspense that begs the audience to contemplate its intricacies, The Shining was really unlike most horror films to come before it. However, Kubrick did manage to find a kindred spirit for The Shining in a 1977 horror movie from a then-novice director, calling the debut feature his favorite movie of all time and showing it to The Shining's cast and crew for an example of the style they strove for.

Also, The Straight Story is worth mentioning. Lynch directed, but more conventional in presentation. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't.

Alvin Straight, a 73-year-old Iowan, learns that his estranged brother, Lyle is critically ill. Unable to drive, Alvin embarks on a journey from Iowa to Mt. Zion, by riding a lawn mower.

Favorite Lynch film/TV

1. Eraserhead
2. Blue Velvet
3. Twin Peaks (80s series)
4. Elephant Man

Not everything hit for me, but those items really did. I'm not much of a plot/story guy. Eraserhead was all mood and composition of frame, sound and image.
Kind of odd that Elephant Man was probably his most normal movie.

I just looked at his filmography and realized I missed that one. Then it’s…

1) Blue Velvet
2) Eraserhead
3) The Elephant Man
4) The Straight Story
5) Lost Highway (bonus points for some of Patricia Arquette’s scenes)
