Dawgnation found Iowa's home court advantage to be the difference

Dougie Payne Crying GIF by Travis

Hawks lost because they played crappy, but it was absurd to have a 9 seed playing less than 2 hours from their campus.
No it isn't ...not when u have 68 teams playing in the Tournament. Iowa has had "bad draws" before (like playing a roadie at Wichita and they were the higher seed), this year was not one of those years. Iowa made its bed with a really poor finish to the regular season and dripping the B10 opener. Iowa could have played in DSM with a stronger finish.

It is what it is and Iowa lost because they played bad, but there were 3 other 9 seeds that don’t have a campus less than 2 hours from Birmingham. Hell, just flip FAU and Auburn and you don’t even have much difference in overall travel.

The thing I heard the most about the matchup was that Iowa had no reason to expect any benefit of the doubt as an 8 seed. I agree with that….so why did the 9 get it? Again, Iowa hits even a couple more shots and they win that game, it wasn’t the court advantage.

Do you realize how ridiculous your logic sounds when you compare Iowa’s finish to Auburn’s? Auburn also lost their SEC “opener” (assuming that means SEC tournament). Auburn lost nine of its last 13 games. Iowa lost six in that time frame. Of course it’s a bad draw to play a lesser seeded team two hours from home.

Iowa could have played in Des Moines with a worse finish too. Maybe if Iowa finished the season 4-9 instead of 7-6 they could have played Texas A&M as the 10 seed instead of PSU. You think the Aggie fans would have liked that? Would Iowa have a home court advantage there?

A middling to lower seed team goes where it is assigned.,I guess the old song lyrics...”Some gotta win, some gotta lose, Good time Charlie’s got the blues." Comes into play here.. I am just not a conspiracist in these things...Iowa has been given “bad seed/ locations” before....this year was not one of them, imo.

They were physical and athletic . Not a great matchup for us.

And in a tight game , you can bet a great home crowd was a legit reason for us winning

I don’t think it’s some grand conspiracy, just a poor decision by the selection committee is all. One which could have and should have been easily avoided as described to you above. We’ll have to agree to disagree on it being a bad draw especially using the logic of how both teams finished the season.

So sending Iowa to DSM would have been the right Decision? It is what it is....and we will disagree...I just don’t think it was that bad a draw. It could have been better and it could have been worse.

As has been pointed out.....your logic makes no sense. You say Iowa could have played in Des Moines with a stronger finish, yet Auburn got to play in Birmingham with a bad finish. If Auburn was an 8 and Iowa a 9....I can understand.

I am not blaming Iowa's loss on the location (it was their poor play and coaching), but the Committee blew it.

Auburn caught the luck of the draw. Being a 9th seed ending up proximate to home is luck. Iowa finishes “stronger” (Top 4 seed) I think the Committee keeps them close to home (DSM)...and away from the luck of the draw. Iowa’s record put them into the draw bucket...and they lost. But, it was NOT a bad draw...I have seen bad draws, this was not one of them...think “Auburn caught a break”...

Where did I or anyone suggest that sending Iowa to Des Moines would be the right decision? In fact, I think that would be idiotic given their seed, which is exactly what they did for Auburn.

How exactly could it have been worse? Please explain that. They actually play the game on Auburn’s campus ?

Well, I disagree that it was luck of the draw, especially when you imply the committee just throws teams into a "draw bucket" and another win or two would take them out of the bucket. Using that logic, since Auburn played WORSE down the stretch, that should have negated the need for this so-called "draw bucket" (which I highly doubt exists).

But that's fine. You stated your opinion. You won't change mine and I won't change yours.

Auburn is 2 hours away from Birmingham...and worse roads! Yep...Iowa once played Wichita at Wichita and Iowa was rated #2 and Wichita barely made it in (the Lute Olson, how many time outs do I get game?)...Raveling took a team out West and played Idaho T a location 15 miles from the Idaho campus....that’s a couple...
Iowa should have taken care of business ....and they would have had a good shot to play in DSM...
Iowa’s record put them into the raffle bag for locations...Auburn caught a break...Iowa did not...

Just when I think, you possibly couldn’t be any dumber you post something like this…

And totally redeem yourself.

We can't overstate that missing Hannah contributed to second chance points for those thugs.

Credit to Monica for playing that many minutes. Actually, ALL the starters.

So CC’s crafty elbow was the physicality? I understand it’s not a huge deal he said it but they’re the ones with 2 flagrant fouls. One seemed unintentional but the one on Clark could’ve been bad.
I’m an Iowa fan, but The one on Clark was just a little shove that looked worse than it was.

Why was Georgia even fouling down 4 with a few seconds left is what I wanted to know. It stupid crazy they were doing that with the game essentially over. I also laugh at CC being called for four fouls compared to all the rough play Georgia players were allowed to get away with and not being called consistently.

If I’m a ref, I have a meeting with both teams telling them what to expect with regards to fouls and how the game will be called. I think if refs did this, it would help justify when they make a call because it’s funny to see a player grab, hit, bump, and pull on a player, get a foul called on them and they look at the ref like they are crazy. Tired of the soccer act on the bball court too. T a player up if they try to pull it in reviews. Game is being ruined by the football style being allowed as well as the fake flops.
