I wish they had to answer for games like this. I want to know if they honestly feel they are doing a good job.

I think this was worse than the officiating in that bowl game against Florida a decade-plus ago. I've never seen so many blatantly bad calls to try to help a team win at the end of the game.
I try to stay very reasonable about the refs, but that was extremely odd.
When the announcers are getting a bit confused and vocalizing that confusion then you know it is bad.

You forgot the horsecollar that was overturned because it was a forward progress horsecollar.

And...while not the refs on the field. The clock operator was ticking off extra seconds on every play as the Hawks moved down field...UNTIL...there was a 50 yard field goal that somehow only took 6 seconds. The clock operation was bad, the officials were indescribably bad.
Hawks are lucky to get that win...but their offense was abysmal in the second half until there were no options but to go downfield...and then they did.

In hindsight, that was probably the best case win to piss off Nebby. Let them get their hopes back and re-invested in the game, then just snatch that hope right from their souls with a game winner. Perfect win to make them hurt.
We got the blind side block call, which was huge. Otherwise, everything went Nebraska’s way.
It’s one thing to miss calls. It’s another to pick up flags and reverse on-field calls. Anyone EVER see a horse collar flag picked up?

I agree with your sentiment but this crew did exactly what the conference told them to do. The overturn of the targeting call was by the conference. I cant believe the Hawks actually were allowed to win this.
It was the right call. It’s only a horse collar if the defender pulls him backwards.
I hate complaining about the refs, but this game was completely obvious they were in the pocket of Nebraska. Their final four calls were just insane. Two overturned calls that were just wrong, take away a field goal with a late timeout and then save one second for Nebraska by discussing a potential taunting call. The whole game Nebraska was holding and nothing was called. It was clearly sketchy. Even with Iowa winning, the refs need to be held accountable.

For it to matter and nullify the kick, wouldn’t he have had to do the alleged taunting on his run up to kick the football? If it happened afterwards, would have been assessed at kickoff. Truly incompetent officiating.

Not that it really mattered, but my favorite was the ref standing over the ball not allowing Iowa to snap it while the play clock ran out and then calling delay of game on Iowa.
Games been over a while now and I’m still peeved at the refs. It just looked like they gave Nebraska a call whenever they needed one.
Even Adolph and Podolak made a few comments. I’ve never heard they say much more than that was a questionable call. But this game, Dolph asked if a member of the crew lived in Nebraska. Was quite comical.
When the hell did you come back to the board? Or did you just move to the free board?
