Debt ceiling: Which countries own the most US debt?

Lol, the national debt is a problem, but I always chuckle a bit at the world is on fire sentiment in the headlines. The can will get kicked like it always does.

As sure as the sun rises in the morning the R's will NOT cave.

It's a wonder McCarthy was able to get the votes for what has already been passed.
The meeting tomorrow will be interesting. McCarthy will basically say he can’t get anything else passed, slimmy chucks S will attempt to play hardball and the turtle will remain silent.
The vegetable in chief will be thinking about pudding or ice cream while yellon explains the problem to him.

It's a national security risk when a large amount is already owned by foreign countries. It's an even bigger national security risk, and economic risk, when there's a dependency on foreign countries to buy future debt.

Japan is the largest creditor with a little over 3%.....there is no large foreign ownership of US debt.

Yeah the 08 crisis sure did take its toll
Yep, that's the problem we have never paid for our sins and punted away. We are insolvent. With interest costing as much as SS, Medicare and Military we are done for and point of no return. Look for high inflation to continue for another decade.

US owns 2/3 of it's own debt. Not sure there is enough collective will to call in the US debt and tank the global economy.

Is a decade considered ‘transitory’?

Yes there is. Japan is just one country. But if you want to be consistent with how you use statistics, just post your 3% rule as a minimum standard for whatever you are arguing. Of course you are also ignoring how bonds and T-bills get sold (at auction). What happens to rates if the demand is low?
