lol. The last 2 seasons of Alford, Iowa averaged 21 wins and had a #3 seed in the NCAA tourney. Lickliter was at Iowa for 3 seasons, averaged 13 wins a year and, unlike Howard, never finished in last place a single time.
When Underwood took over Illinois, they had missed the tourney 6 straight years. A much longer period of irrelevance than Iowa.
The simple fact is that Lickliter didn't "destroy" the Iowa program with an 8th, 9th, and 10th place finish. He simply wasn't bad enough or here long enough to do that. That myth is a cope for a decade and a half of mostly mediocrity under Fran.
