Eventually AI will write itself and their is no capping it our owning it.

It was always destined to be self evolving and basically free.

People trying to cap it or profit from it are the same people that thought they could charge for news or music.

Free, always wins and always finds a way.

AI still requires databases, computing power, and energy.

This system is using $500 million in just Nvidia chips.

Deepseek was hit by a “cyberattack” that is “forcing” them to limit new registrations.

If I didn’t whole-heartedly trust the Chinese, I might think that they could only handle so many inquiries at a time with their limited processing power.

Hopefully this initial shock is short lived.

Lot's of mutual funds have significant exposure to Nvidia.

Mine certainly do.

Another Biden mess that Trump will need to fix.

DeepSeek spent less than $6 mllion to fund this project. Biden spent $50 billion on the chips sector.

It's not how much you spend, it's how you spend it.
God this is stupid. The money Biden provided wasn't to design AI systems, it was to manufacture hardware, the chips, that allow you to do these things. The fact that these chips are made in Taiwan is probably a big part of the reason it was so much cheaper for them. And exactly how was Biden supposed to stop them from developing this? Start bombing them? What, America has the ability to dictate to other countries what they can and can't invest money in?

No, the real clusterf**k is the response coming from the current administration. They have such a great track record with dealing with a crisis.

Naive question - can this be some sort of a hoax? Could the Chinese be exaggerating what they can do to hurt the market?
Yes. They’re almost certainly lying about their cost of design. They’re still using Nvidia chips for the heavy lifting and there’s reason to believe they’re at capacity for the 50k chips they have.

It’s easy to game the App Store. There might be real significant efficiency gains with this company, but I’m very skeptical about their claims.

I'm almost positive it works, although who knows on how accurate it is. American AI makes plenty of errors. If it followed the track record, most of it is probably reverse engineered anyway. Another way they were able to do it cheaper.

Just got off the phone with my advisor about this (he rarely calls about things that happen so quickly). We decided to trim my exposure to NVIDIA. I already made a tidy little sum, so I'm good with it.

Have you seen the information coming out of China from social media "influencers"? Yes, it's possibly censored but they are not faking all of the technology advancements implemented in their cities. China is not totally what we were lead to believe. Yes, their govt will crush you if you plot to work against their communism, but damn, they have some cool sheet over there.

I’m genuinely amazed that people didn’t believe that the wealthier areas of China were fully developed and had cutting edge technology.

Influencers on Tik Tok blame government propaganda, but the truth is they just aren’t particularly well-read or well-traveled.

If you include Hong Kong and the Singaporean universities that cater to Chinese nationals, they have 20% of the top research universities in the world. They also have access to a huge trove of government procured stolen research and IP.

If the social media creators from the U.S. and other "western" countries living in China are to be believed, even their more urban cities are extremely livable, crime virtually non-existent... its actually the utopia MAGAs who are afraid of bit cities are looking for.

I always get a chuckle about the stolen IP narrative. US corporations were more than happy to jump into the Chinese market in exchange for sharing their technology. They made deliberate business decisions to increase profits and to gain access to cheap labor and manufacturing.

There's no doubt that China is guilty of theft, but lets not act like the US isn't complicit as well.

That's kind of like blaming a rape victim for going on a date with the rapist.

It's not naive at all. I don't believe anything out of China anymore. Especially this news today. I would say there is a better chance this is all market manipulation from china and as shares of nvda plummet, china is busy buying those shares.

Don't believe anything that comes from those communists.

A company does business in China to take advantage of their labor market and manufacturing costs (the date), so therefore it is okay to have its IP stolen (the rape).
Yeah, that's not how it works though. US companies were more than happy to agree to share technology, through joint ventures like SAIC/GM. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAIC-GM

Most of the technology "transfers" between the US and China are done through legal means, legal sales:
Like I said, lets not act like we haven't done similar things for decades.

I do find the victimization of US corporations and the US government quite interesting though (and the subsequent white-knighting from many of us). Just like China our propaganda machine is quite powerful.

They’ve used both cyber attacks and “international students” to steal research from universities. Their level of corporate espionage is insane.

Pretending they aren’t actively stealing research on a industrial scale is silly.

Like I said, it's not like US government and US corporations aren't doing the same thing. Most (but not all of course) research at Universities is publicly available and globally shared.

It's naive to believe that our propaganda network isn't as powerful as China's; there's no secret that China lives under an oppressive regime - but we're the ones trying to ban TikTok under the guise of freedom.

what if the rape victim knew the rapist had priors. Well he raped my sister, but I’m sure we can make this work. I know horrible analogy. But I’m sure it was part of the analysis of doing a deal with them,

I think we do plenty of negative things and there’s plenty of propaganda, but China at a government level has a policy of IP theft.

It’s not just the United States that deals with it. Taiwan and Korea are under near constant attack.
