Everyone knows that we have been weak defensively but I'm wondering if that same weakness isn't eliminated when you get beyond the starting lineup that has been great offensively but tends to get lost on the other end. JoeT appears to have truly become a defensive force this year with the tools to be elite. Very tough to get by him and his recovery ability is fantastic. Who else do you think are defensive difference makers on this team? I've really liked what I have seen out of Keegan Murray so far. Add in Pmac and Ulis and it has looked like a solid defensive lineup especially on the perimeter where we tend to get beaten regularly. Nunge looked really solid last night in his first action as well.

I agree, but mixing in the man at times is fine if we have decent personnel

I agree with this...with the right line up on the floor we casn play decent man to man. Joe T, CJ, Patrick, Connor, Joe W.....and either post player will let us play decent man D.

Who would be our all defensive team starting 5? I'll take a crack.

PG: Ulis
SG: Fredrick
SF: Keegan Murray
PF: Nunge
C: Garza

Not a lot of candidates on the defensive side.

No judgement can be made on anything (good or bad) based on the first 3 opponents. Check that, nothing conclusive. All 3 opponents all terrible. All ranked 266 or lower in the Pomeroy rankings. Keegan Murray (nice Render reference) has size and can move, and appears willing to rebound and make hustle plays. Those are all good indicators that he can be a plus defender, but the level of competition is going to go way up here soon. Toussaint gets after it on defense, but we need to see if he can defend without fouling against good competition. His foul rate per minute last year was the highest on the team. The younger McCaffery has length, the early returns are good. Now he'll have to adjust against better competition.

Toussaint makes an element of our fan base super excited, and I too enjoy watching him play. But the same things that made him a very inefficient player last year (high turnover rate, high foul rate and very low % on 2-pointers) are still there. He's 2-2 from 3-point range, and if he is anywhere north of 35% as a 3-point shooter that would be fantastic improvement. But if his ability on 2-pointers doesn't improve it will be hard to play him big minutes. He is 3-10 so far on 2-pointers. Way too small a sample size, but he was 39% on 2-pointers last year. He's not alone, as Bohannon and Conor were worse on 2-pointers last year, the problem is Toussaint turns it over way more than they do and he takes way more 2-point shots than they do. Again, it's only 3 games but I was hoping to see improvement in Toussaint's game in those areas and (so far) it's some of the same issues.

Garza is so good at such a high volume of shots that he's a bit of a unicorn. Just no other player in the country like him. But if this team is going to get where they want to go, the rest of the team needs to be better than they were last year.

A lot of Toussaint's foul problems arise on the offensive end with charges. He hasn't been all that foul prone in the defensive side considering how aggressive he plays.
