Defensive rebounding and missed free throws cost Iowa the game

Up 4 with 8 minutes left and our senior point guard turned it over 2x and air balled another 10 footer. He simply cannot handle pressure.

Too many 2nd chance points given up. Missed too many free throws. That's it.
Seems typical, just like last year. Turnovers too. We had a chance to put em away & gave it away instead. This team proves again (@Md) they're not a top seed.

No doubt. Some of the major issues from the last couple of years rear their ugly head every so often. Gesell reverts back. Woodbury reverts back.

The lack of physicality on this team and rebounding ability in the post is gonna cost them all year. Luckily the increase in 3pt shooting has really made up for a lot of the weaknesses. We need that to continue.

Please leave Woody alone. He worked hard all game. This loss is not on him.

Yes. We were NOT physical. Much like last year.

Indiana killed Iowa's zone offensively and on the boards. Man defense is what got Iowa the lead. Went back to the zone, pissed the lead right away and the 2nd shots started again

Honestly, woody is woody! He's gonna hustle, but he's not real athletic, and he's not physical or a finisher. Just a big space eater w avg. ability. Not his fault.

Yeah cause 15 rebounds and a double double are the problem not zero bench points and 6 fouls off the bench. How did their 5 star freshman do against him? We missed 10 free throws too. I want to see JU attack the hoop when the game is on the line. Those 4 misses without a point set the tone.

Please tell Fran thank you for that zone. The only thing we can do is hit threes and attack the offensive boards and that zone was exactly the one defense that we can exploit and kill.

We probably scored on 70% of our possessions when you were in zone and probably 15% when you went man. I mean you have a size advantage in pretty much every position...so please tell Fran thank you for me.

You're down 7, start in man...go up 4 to 5 rebounding everything that goes up...and you go back to zone.

Nice.

You hit the nail on the head. Just an off night from the line and bench. Its tough in the Big 10 on the road. I like our chances against them in IC.

This was Fran's poorest coaching job of the season. Our zone defense killed us. Why we stayed in it throughout the first half, given the Hoosier's perimeter shooting and offensive rebounding, is perplexing. In addition, the substitution pattern was boneheaded.

Oh well, everyone has a bad day. Hopefully, Fran gets back to his "A" coaching game Sunday.

That was certainly a bad stretch of decision making for Mike. He pretty much single-handedly took the wind out of our sails with 3 bad plays in a row. He had a decent game otherwise, but that stretch turned the entire game around. Had them on their heels feeling the heat when their big lead eveaporated, crowd was quieted, etc. Another 5 minute scoring drought, which I thought was going to be a thing of the past with this team, but we've had a few of those lately.

That said, in spite of the bad moments, you shoot better at the free throw line and the game is within reach at all times, then anything can happen. You won't beat many decent teams on the road in any conference shooting free throws like that, been that way since the beginning of time and it ain't changing anytime soon.

As that whole stretch happened I was thinking man the board is going to get all over him again(myself included). He just seems to have brain farts at the most inopportune times. He doesn't do much to help defend himself. He had a chance to be the guy tonight and he was his usual self. It's unfortunate because he was so good defensively but when he tries to do too much on offense he gets himself in so much trouble.

Fran got outcoached by Crean? Can that be said on this board?

The rebounding was because we played 2-3 for the entire first half. Against a team that was moving the ball well against the zone, shooting even better, and crashing the boards the hard. Look what happened at the start of the second half when we gave IU their first look against our man D. I'm not sure why we didn't mix-up zone and man in the first half like Fran usually seems to do against most teams. I'd love to see the scouting on sticking with the 2-3 for so long.

Honestly did you watch the game?

Honestly he had 13 and 15. Honestly if thats him being woody than honestly any team should be happy to get that from their center. Honestly.

Yep. Not our coaches brightest moment.

He loves the idea of switching defenses and it works often but it was clearly not a good idea tonight.
