It will be very interesting to see what this team plays like on Saturday.

I have said from the beginning of the season that we would struggle at times, because of the leadership of Peter Jok. Don't get me wrong, Peter brings some really strong skills to the table for this team. However, leadership isn't one of them. In addition, defense is also not one of those things.

Even knowing what we knew about Peter's defense, I never imagined our zones could look as good as they do without Peter in the lineup. When you have Jbo and BE or IM up top in the 2-3, it just looks so much quicker. Likewise, the 3-2 with Baer and any two of our guards looks fantastic as well.

It is obvious to everyone that our offense even looks better, likely for two reasons:
1. The ball just moves so much more right now...
2. Everyone seems to feel the freedom to attack with their normal tendencies...

I don't think that was happening before. Guys were hesitant to do what they have done for years, wanting to make sure they didn't take a shot away from our "scorer".

With that said, I think it might be really exciting to see an IMPROVED offense on Saturday. If 1 & 2 remain the same, and you insert an all-american level shooter into the offense, it should be measurably better than what it was 2 weeks ago. Peter just needs a renewed sense of ball movement, and I am hopeful that he has seen and learned in that area from these past 2 games.

However, I don't think the same is true of our defense(s). Unless we can play man to man, and find someone weak that Peter basically doesn't have to guard, there is simply no way the defense goes any direction but down. Hopefully, at a minimum, at least PJ has had the opportunity to watch these 2 games, and see what good individual and team defense looks like. If he is truly an AA level of player, then the onus is on him to figure out how to fit in now.

It should be fun to watch.

PJ better D it up and move the ball going forward. Love the kid but man we have looked good the previous two games.

I hope going forward and next year that Fran puts the emphasis on team ball rather then again anointing a single player to be the focal point for offense.

It wont be an issue going forward with this group because theyve already figured out the right way to play and there isnt anyone guy that that is significantly better than the rest.

Im just worried about going back to that this year.

Don't wanna be a downer cause we have looked good, but we just played 2 games where the opponent looked like they were daydreaming about being on a beach somewhere.
Yes, we just played the last place team and Ohio is in the bottom third, I think. So we should look a little better. I hope it continues tho.

Do you want to expand on how you know that Jok doesn't have leadership skills? I remember reading last year that Jok hosted virtually every visiting recruit. It would seem to me that a poor leader wouldn't be put in this role.

I have no idea but the two things arent related and could actually be oposites.

Being entertaining and being able to tell people what to do are different.

From what ive seen Pete is a fun loving extroverted sort of guy which is why you would have him host people. Especially when your other choices were mostly the oposite personality types.

Can you imagine Jarrod Uthoff hosting some guys from Chigaco?

Actually, they might...it just won't be in a game against Nebraska.;)

Yes, that is exactly correct. Pete is exactly the kind of young man that you want hosting out of town recruits. He is very laid back, fun loving, and would generally make new guys feel very comfortable.

A leader is a guy that is first of all an example, and also is a guy that understands what is going on in and around him and his team, and will generally be able to encourage and move others in the right direction.

I have been around Pete and know him fairly well. He is very much the first guy, and not so much the second guy.

Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to bash Peter in any way. He is a great young man. I'm just suggesting that of all of the strengths that he has, leadership isn't a primary one.

I was really impressed with a recent after the game on the court interview that Peter Jok did (BTN I believe - 4-5 games ago). His delivery was excellent and his responses to several real good questions were well thought out and articulated. I know he's been in the U.S. for quite some time, but for some reason I expected a heavy African-dialect accent of some sort, and there was no sign of that.

On the court he always seems kind of shy/reserved, but that didn't seem to be the case with a microphone in his face. He was really good.

I think some of you are being a little hard on Jok, the kid was trying to carry them team while obviously playing hurt. It affected his shot and his ability. The freshmen (except Bohanon) were getting defended by people who had seen them on tape and were prepared for for there moves for the first time. As a result Pete was going all out on offense and resting on defense. I think easing Jok back in would be good, and hopefully he's 100% and recognizes that he can play a more balanced game now.
