Defining game

I came into this game just wanting to see Iowa compete and show grit, and fully expected a double digit loss, even if we played well. This team appears to have a mental and physical toughness we have not had in a while. Hopefully, our confidence will grow from this.
Best defensive Iowa team I have seen in the McCaffery years.

Thought the exact same thing, and that was with Keegan playing.

When I heard he wasn't I fully expected a 20 pt loss, and it was looking like it halfway thru the second half.

Awesome effort

great coaching in the 2nd half.

we overcame:

* the #1 team in the USA on their home floor
* the officials
* missing out best player

and only lost by 7 .

He also had much better rotations in the second half. I love the defensive effort.

Clean up the glass and knock some shots down. We are almost there!

I thought PMAC made one of his 3's in 2nd half.

When Fran said preseason he was going to feature CMAC as more of a score/shooter this season, I had my doubts.

I don't mind Sandfort taking 3's...he needs experience. He's got the size to get off 3pt'ers, whereasa JBO can be smothered by a good defender that sticks to him.

box score shows PMac 0-4 from 3

yeah, hopefully this is a great learning experience for Payton

JBo got 2 three pointers off; Purdue was not going to let him get going

Purdue is so well coached. Tonight, Fran was just as good.

Box Score:

I had to miss the game tonight guys but loving the optimism! Can’t wait to watch the replay and check some highlights out. I’m so happy for Josh O. Sounds also like Connor needs to quit shooting and Jbo may have to ride the pine against athletic back courts when he can’t get his shot. He’s honestly probably the best option we have at a 6th man, Kris 7th, Ulis 8th, and Connor/Josh O 9th depending on the Match ups. Connors best asset is his passing and taking care of the ball, bur 0-5 from 3 dang. understand shooting that poorly, you may as well count those as TO’s I bet we weren’t getting a ton of offensive boards. Cheers guys here’s to pulling out a big W tomorrow in Indy

He usually doesn't unless the shot clock is running down.

At that point he has to.

Its not his fault he's out there.
He chucked several up early this game, one with like 15 seconds left. He shouldn't be passed to if the clock is running down. He had chances to pass it away and shot instead tonight. Fran should have benched him immediately.

Give Purdue some credit for defense. 3 point shooting is never going to be consistent, that’s why good defense is so important. There‘s only one player on that list who I wouldn’t want to keep taking those shots if they aren’t falling, which they weren’t.

Not sure I'd go that far...

We are lacking defensive rebounding. Teams with Woody, Sap and Gesell with Uthoff were better because they rebounded much better.

No way. Fran hasn’t had a team grind like this ever on the defensive end. Defensive boards I agree, need to get better, but they make you work to get a clean look

He made a long 2 in the second half from the baseline. Was probably a 3 in the old college distance, but not with the new college line.

We shot horribly from 3 and had a million fouls yet here we are.
If you don't mind, I would suggest amending your statement to this: "We (Iowa) shot horribly from 3 [and missed several lay-ups] and WERE CALLED for a million fouls, yet here we are."

That great power forward Abe Lincoln loved this little riddle: "If you call a calf's tail a leg, how many legs does a calf have?"

Answer: "Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one."

Likewise, just because a ref calls a foul doesn't make it one. And just because he doesn't call a foul, doesn't mean a foul didn't occur. There were, to use your words, "a million" examples of that last night, and 999,999 went in PU's favor.
