Despite how you would probably answer that, the rest of nation would laugh.

My initial reaction was to laugh, because it's funny, and it is funny. But how many other schools would have a similar result? I'm not sure Iowa would, because we don't think of ourselves as a blue blood, but I bet Texas would. Georgia? Seems likely in states with decent football teams that only have one major state U.
Actually, they probably would answer that Iowa has been a top program, particularly in the early/mid-80's. There also would have been a much different result if they'd asked "has Nebraska ever been a top program?" Clearly nebraska has, and everyone would acknowledge that.
The irony here, is that everyone outside of Nebraska realizes they no longer are, and haven't been in the last 13 years, but Nebraskans still cling to the idea.
Northwestern? Demolished them. Purdue? Demolished them. Wisconsin? Won. Illinois? Won. Nebraska may be in the top 8 teams we played, but have certainly proven to not be in the top 5 or 6.
I think the game will be close and Neb does have a chance to win. But it is funny how before MSU, TA is horrible and the coaching staff needs to go, etc. One blown call on a game winning TD and they will be the best team Iowa has faced all year. 2016 National Title talk start up yet?

But I also thing most everyone outside of Nebraska would agree they quickly became "not a top program" shortly after joining the Big 12 and had to play by the same academic rules as the Rest of the Power 5 conferences. Half of their starters on offense when they won their last title weren't eligible in other conferences.
You conveniently leave out that our decline began when one of the top coaches in college football retired from our program. Must have been the academic thing right?

Its been noted that Tom O was the only coach in the Big 8 opposed to joining the Big 12 due to the academic standards required by Texas. Did Tom O hang it it because he was tired of coaching or because he saw the writing on the wall and his bread and butter recruits were no longer going to be allowed?
Northwestern? You are wrong, they haven't been demolished by anyone. They will be the best team we have faced to date, and it's not close. Toss up game.

But, yeah.....keep the myth alive that TO was worried about academics in relationship to having to play 3 Texas schools that have piles of homegrown talent to choose from any year.

When an 11-0 Iowa team is favored by 1 point to a 5-6 NU team.....that pretty much sums up the order of things in college football. After your euphoria comes crashing down on Friday.....and we move forward next year with the implementation of our new systems, coaches, recruits, etc.....we'll go back to beating you annually without much thought.

I know, we play some pretty horrible teams like Nebraska this year. But that's what the Big Ten gave us, so all we can do is play the games. I just wish we had some quality losses on our schedule like you guys!

You're right, we're not 11-0. SOS is a poor argument. If we were 10-1 or 9-2, maybe. However, you guys are 11-0 except the refs screwed you 6 times.
Eh, it happens.. Nebraska lost to Purdue. Oklahoma lost to Texas. Michigan State to Nebraska. Florida State to Ga. Tech. A&M to Auburn. Oregon to Washington State... Sometimes the better team loses.

To UN fans scores such as 63-38, 70-31, 62-28,73-31,41-6,and 70-10 are not considered 'demolished' These are also scores of games that Nebraska has lost in the past 15 years.
