Florida Republicans take the lead in early voting ballots, an ominous sign for Democrats

Florida Republicans pulled ahead of Democrats Thursday in the number of pre-Election Day votes cast, a major shift from previous voting patterns and another sign that the GOP could have a very good night on Nov. 8.

Democrats have built up leads in pre-Election Day voting each of the last two cycles, only to be swamped by Republicans on Election Day.

Now it appears that Republicans will actually have the lead in votes cast heading into Election Day, a potentially ominous sign for Democrats.

As of Thursday afternoon, Florida Republicans had cast 848,350 ballots through mail or in-person early voting, while Democrats had cast 831,509. That's a lead of 16,841 ballots cast for the GOP, according to data compiled by Fresh Take Florida, a news service of the University of Florida College of Journalism.

In 2018, Democrats had cast 31,641 more ballots than Republicans heading into Election Day and Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis still won.

In 2020, Democrats were leading by 125,063 votes cast over Republicans going into Election Day and former President Donald Trump still easily carried Florida, winning by more than 371,000 votes.

The latest polls show DeSantis and Sen. Marco Rubio with sizable leads against their Democratic challengers.

I predict a red wave. Turnout nationwide by the left cannot be good. I mean, what excites anyone about the current policies from the left. Granted the right isn’t all that more exciting, but midterms aren’t really about that.

The highlight of Bidens presidency is still a man winning a women’s national championship in swimming lol

right now, the democrats rallying cry is killing babies. That's not going to inspire a lot of moderates to go to the polls. With the economy and the border and crime on top of people's minds abortion falls about #9 on the list of what is driving people to the polls.

What determines "republican" vs "democrat" in this context? Are the saying these people are affiliated with whichever party cast their absentee ballot? Not necessarily who they voted for?

Yeah the whole overturning roe thing was pretty dumb, have to assume politics weren’t taken into consideration with that decision. We will see I guess. Just can’t imagine anyone is pumped to go cast a ballot for this shit show.

I got a flyer in the mail today portraying Rubio in dark tones with blood splatters saying he’s a hard radical against a woman’s choice.
It’s sitting in my recycle bin right now. 😏

The party you voluntarily check off when you register to vote so it’s part of the system and notes the numbers of each party’s total.

You start another thread asking what people are doing to fight MAGA, & you type this idiotic MAGA drivel in this thread. Your troll game consistency is lacking.
MAGA doesn’t have anything to do with it. It’s not even political for me (other than the dumbass in chief pushing trans rights). I just think it’s a bit hilarious that it even happened and even more hilarious that some people thought that was appropriate/fair. Like wtf? Imagine this in like 1985, not a soul in this country would have backed it up.

Maybe the OP can tell us if all of the repubs voted for a repub and all dems voted for a dem.

To sum up the Rs:

Elect Trump
Jack up spending
Invade Capitol
Ban abortion
Bitch about inflation
Offer no solutions
Attack trans kids.
And blame everything on the Dems.

We all know what will happen when you get back in power. You'll offer no solutions, blame everything on minorities and immigrants. Then invent more crap like CRT to run on the next election. GOP is hot garbage.

That kind of attack is not helpful.
The attack ads in Arizona are saying Kari Lake is serious about seceding from the US and that seniors will loser SS, Medicare, and everything else under the Sun.

I don’t like the election denial, and she won’t get my vote. But I hate these types of ads. Nowadays, every candidate is dangerous for “insert state here”.

Lots of Republicans made the decision to flip on the presidential side in 2020. Wouldn’t expect that again for at least a generation. Look how they’ve been rewarded. Demonized by the guy that was supposed to unite the nation.
This is well said. Trump has his base of idiots, but the majority of republicans are good Americans who work, pay their taxes, help strangers in need, are productive decent members of society. You wouldn't know that from the vitriol that comes from the left.

It’s truly despicable. Lots of small business owners who truly care about their employees can be lumped in as well. The left is so anti-business that it really turns me off. These academics go on and on about how awful everyone is to their employees and it’s simply false.

Well I know damn well that republicans didn’t vote in substantial numbers for democrats, and that’s not even close to speculating. You ask questions that answer themselves.

Grassley is campaigning with Trump next week. Shouldn't Iowa Rs vote against him if they aren't represented by MAGA?

If this is true then why is Trump being brought in to boost candidates like Chuck? Wouldn't that damage Grassley's brand?

answered above. but 75 million people who voted for Trump, most of them didn't go to DC on 1/6, most of them didn't storm the capitol, most of them showed up in person to vote. That's about the worst thing you can say about them.

Probably. I don’t follow Iowa politics that often. I would vote against grassley because he should have retired 20 years ago, but that’s just me.
This seems like a convenient response to avoid what we all know.

Wait. So Rs are ok with Trump leading this coup? Wouldn't that make the left's accusations that most Rs are dirtbags correct then?

What do we all know? All you have presented is some sort of cheap event to get people to vote. It’s not like he’s running a trump platform or something, right?

No, it makes you a stereotyper. This isn't about 2020 its about 2022. As of now there's been no coup for 2022. Just because someone voted for Trump over the geriatric, dementia-riddled, socialist doesn't mean they support what happened on 1/6 or believe in Q conspiracies. Do some/many of them? Certainly.

Please explain how the Rs are even a smidge better than the Dems?

We've already established that they still love Trump. That makes them infinitely worse. We've established that they don't believe in reproductive rights. That makes them infinitely worse, too. And we've established that their only solution to inflation: tax cuts, would actually make inflation worse. So they even suck at what is supposed to be their strength.

So why vote GOP?

Cheap is right. Disgusting is probably a better term. Trump tried to destroy our democracy yet Grassley wants to bring him in for hugs and kisses. Why? And why would your average R support Chuck after?

You can't destroy what we don't have. we are not a democracy. We are a constitutional republic. Now if you want to say Trump tried to destroy that I'm listening.

Simple: they won’t pass spending bills in the middle of an inflation crisis… 3 fing times.

Well, I do think Lake is dangerous because she’s a photogenic nutcase who could very well be a VP candidate before too long…
