Denmark has become the first country to halt its Covid vaccination program, saying it is doing so because the virus is now under control.

“Spring has arrived, vaccine coverage in the Danish population is high, and the epidemic has reversed,” the Danish Health Authority said in a statement Wednesday.

“Therefore, the National Board of Health is now ending the broad vaccination efforts against Covid-19 for this season,” it said. People will not be invited for vaccines from May 15, it said, although everyone will be able to finish their course of vaccination.

Denmark’s Covid vaccination campaign began soon after Christmas in 2020. Some 4.8 million citizens have been vaccinated, the health authority said, with more than 3.6 million people receiving a booster shot.

At the same time, many people have been infected since the omicron variant became the dominant strain of the virus, it said, meaning immunity levels among the population are high.

“We are in a good place,” Bolette Soborg, unit manager at the National Board of Health, commented.

“We have good control of the epidemic, which seems to be subsiding. Admission rates [to hospitals] are stable and we also expect them to fall soon. Therefore, we are rounding up the mass vaccination program against Covid-19.”

Soborg insisted that the public can still be vaccinated over the spring and summer if they want, and that vaccination sites will remain open around the country.

He added that immunization was still recommended to people for whom Covid poses a heightened risk, such as those over the age of 40 and for unvaccinated pregnant women. “We also continue to recommend that you complete your started vaccination course,” he said.

What we need is a new vaccine. What was supposed to be great about the mRNA technology is it can be easily fine-tuned against new variants.

Well, we've had a parade of new variants and the vaccines we have were developed based on the original strain.

Denmark:
82.3% fully vaccinated
62.2% boosted
2,938 COVID deaths prior to 12/01/2021
3,211 COVID deaths since 12/01/2021

South Korea:
86.0% fully vaccinated
67.2% boosted
3,624 COVID deaths prior to 12/01/2021
19,000 COVID deaths since 12/01/2021

I know this sounds like crazy talk, but it’s almost as if the vaccines aren’t particularly effective against Omicron.

Looks like SK did a helluva lot better than the US did:

Gonna miss the Denmark people as they all die from Covid. They seemed OK.

Hmmm. High vaccination rate. Good. Still infected with a variant. They survived. They now have a large degree of natural immunity, which is being downplayed by quite a few people. Maybe they place as much value on the natural immunity as the vaccines, and that played a part in the decision.

I’m not comparing SK to the US. I’m talking about how highly vaccinated SK fared against Omicron versus how SK fared against Alpha and Delta.
...and the higher vaccination rate in SK worked out better than the lower vaccination rate in the US

LOLWUT?

You are WAY better off acquiring "natural immunity" AFTER you've been vaccinated

You’re still not paying any attention to what I’m saying. You never do.

This isn’t about the US versus any other country. It’s about how two of the most highly vaccinated countries in the world fared against Omicron versus how those exact same countries had fared against previous variants and the original strain.

Denmark had reasonably little trouble with the original strain and most variants, even before anyone there was vaccinated. Then Omicron came along and burned through the populace as if they weren’t even vaccinated.

South Korea had reasonably little trouble with the original strain and most variants, even before anyone there was vaccinated. Then Omicron came along and burned through the populace as if they weren’t even vaccinated.

For two years South Korea was the model for success in dealing with the pandemic. And then Omicron showed up and within a matter of weeks they became the global hotspot for COVID-19.

Arguing with Joe is pointless.

And?

We KNOW the vaccines are not as effective against variants.
That does not mean they are completely ineffective. Which is why, when comparing Denmark and SK - two highly vaccinated countries - to others which were NOT has highly vaccinated, is logical. It is showing you that the vaccines DID provide a benefit.

That is the point you and others are trying to make here: "vaccines are useless", which is nonsense.

You have no credibility. If you are truly "vaccinated", you don't get infected. Well, at least under the traditional definition.

Before you get all giddy about your notions, here are a few links to various studies from Denmark that are contrary to your positions, moving goalposts notwithstanding.

Vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna more likely to get Omicron

59% of Danes infected since November

Masks don't protect against infection

So.... Joe's Place... are you willing to accept those studies?

I'm pretty sure Joe types up a response while it comes to him and posts that instead of curtailing it to whatever comment someone actually posts.

It's easier that way and I'm sort of impressed with the efficiency, even if it isn't relevant at all.

FALSE.

If you are "vaccinated", you can still become infected - for many diseases, actually- but your infection and disease state is generally much less severe.

You might wanna look up data on "flu vaccines" and how they aren't "100%" foolproof, either. Nor is measles vaccine - we just don't see many outbreaks due to herd immunity with those.

Do you really think people are that stupid? Flu vaccines are developed based on the predicted strain each year, and have never been intended or advertised as a vaccine against all strains. The other examples you give are equally absurd. Vaccines have traditionally prevented infection.

That isn't the point he was making....at all.

He's saying the vaccines seem to be less effective against Omicron then they were the previous variants. The Death numbers he provided bare that out.

No one has argued otherwise.

Your buddies in this thread are arguing AGAINST vaccines and touting "natural immunity".
And insinuating that "vaccines didn't help Denmark or South Korea". But they absolutely DID help, or deaths tolls would have been far far higher.
