For a so-called conservative, he sure likes big government.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suggested Wednesday that he might urge the state's child protective services to investigate parents who take their children to drag shows.

When asked by reporters whether he would support proposed legislation from a Florida state representative that would punish parents who take their children to such performances, the governor said he has asked his staff to look into the idea.

"We have child protective statutes on the books," the governor said. "We have laws against child endangerment."

“It used to be kids would be off-limits. Used to be everybody agreed with that,” DeSantis continued. “Now it just seems like there’s a concerted effort to be exposing kids more and more to things that are not age appropriate.”

. . .

"That is totally inappropriate. That is not something children should be exposed to," DeSantis said Wednesday of the video. "And so, we probably, we may have the ability to deal with something like that if something like that happens."

Should little kids be taken to real female strip clubs?
I would not, but do you want CPS involved?

Edit: I read your question quickly - real strip clubs, with nudity, alcohol, etc. no. But that’s already not allowed.

Pseudo-drag shows, I still wouldn’t personally, but don’t think it’s a matter requiring government intervention.

My point is more that DeSantis’ first instinct is nearly always to threaten the heavy hand of government.

Republicans inserting themselves into private matters. Not unusual.

If they serve any sort of food kids can come right on in.
Not in favor of a law but DAMN why are parents so stupid these days?
I have to think there are probably some parents who want to show support for the LGBTQ community but get caught up in it all and sit there wondering if it’s truly appropriate.

The problem is being against drag shows is often just a proxy for being against LGBTQ people generally.

Sounds to me like he's saying there are already laws on the books to handle it. Just by what's in the op. I didn't click the link.

They like big government when they can tell you what to do, but hate big government when they tell them what to do.

I can hear his dog whistle loud and clear. As usual this is something paraded out to the general population to make it seem like it’s happening everywhere every day.

I have my doubts that’s the case, just like transgender folks engaging in pedophilia etc.
Likely a big nothing hamberder but it riles up the gullible rubes.

DeSantis is leaving a big loophole. He'll need to ban perverted movies like Tootsie, or the Birdcage. The children must be protected!

In all seriousness, don’t think they’re not coming after porn. All of it. And most any movie or TV show with boobs in it. Many very totalitarian countries already do this, it would be a snap for them to do this to every single internet connection in the US almost overnight.

Anyone who has a problem with DeSantis on this one needs to do some serious soul searching.

Some of you people truly amaze me.

So, he should decide what parents should and shouldn't be allowed to do with their children? What type of entertainment they deem appropriate? During Covid it was all about parental choice. Now he gets to be the moral compass? He is just once again playing on the right wing hot button topic of the day to play to the MAGA base.
