Wow, quite the accolades. Even if there is some homerism and hyperbole in this article, other GM’s and scouts have to feel so stupid.

If his outstanding play keeps up down the final stretch of the season, it could be effectively argued that King is the best rookie selection in franchise history in regards to true value and production, and at the very least, he will deserve a hard look by the Associated Press as an All-Pro.

Oh, I 100% understand this is based off the idea of value and what they get out of what it cost. LT could have been the #1 pick and cost them a 1st rounder for the next 4 years and he still would have been the best draft pick/roi the chargers have ever made. Imo.

5 pro bowls
6 time all pro
Back to back rushing titles
3rd all time touchdowns
2nd all time rushing touchdowns

DK is going to need to play like he is right now for about 7-8 seasons before that 5th round vs 1st round scale gets tipped.

I think we are ALL in agreement though, D.K. has had a heck of a year so far. That's not to take away from him, the other 2 guys are 1st Ballot HoF and hopefully he can be mentioned with them moving fwd.

The “funky chicken dance” was iconic!!

Agreed that they have similarities in their draft value v. production. Outside of that, they are opposites in terms of the way they play. Physical v finesse. The only on-field comparison I could equate is the ability to “ball hawk”.

I love both of them so much. Merton gave me his gloves after a win at Kinnick. So much pine tar/stick em. My dog ate them :(

Great Hawk, bad dancer...

Dan Fouts was picked by the chargers in the third round and is a hall of famer and considered one of the best QB's in the history of the NFL, making the analysis of this writer ridiculously stupid. King isn't even in the top two rated rookie cornerbacks, much less defensive rookie of the year or anywhere close to being an all-pro yet. Great pick in the fifth round but nowhere close to what the writer claims. But making outrageously stupid claims is what gets you clicks and passes for journalism these days..

Gates wasn't drafted, so technically he doesn't qualify. LT is a good point, even at pick 5 he was an amazing value and changed the trajectory of their franchise for years.

I think having been drafted later on will help keep King stay hungry through his career. Always have something to prove. He's doing very well already. His hitting and physical presence not only in the passing game are a rare quality.

I think both Merton & Desmond combine the physical and finese perfectly.

Have to agree. That dance was pimp!

Um no,! Tomlinson, Dan Fouts,, Gates, Winslow, chuck Muncie, Wes chandler , junior Seaou among others. Let’s ask again in 10 years

Yeah, it's a little early to start making claims like that. There are some very talented people he'd have to surpass to even be considered.

Lance Alworth was pretty good..... The guy averaged 20 yards a catch his years in SD. Shawne Merriman, Ladianian Tomlinson ....
Didn't mention Kellen WInslow... unless they mean rookie production..., Then it would be still be Seau and Merriman. The season isn't over, so hoping Kig cements himself as best rookie in Chargers history. King is having a great season, but let's not get carried away. Not a HOFer yet...
