5. DESMOND KING, CB, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
PFF Grade: 87.4

PFF Elite Stat: King has recorded 17 stops in coverage this season, the second-most among cornerbacks.

A bit of a “down” week for King, who posted a (still above-average) 75.4 overall grade against the Cleveland Browns in Week 13 as he hangs onto his top-5 here. King has now finished every game but one since the start of Week 7 with an overall grade of at least 75.0, and in four of those games he surpassed the 80.0 mark. The rookie from Iowa has absolutely thrived in the slot where he’s one of just 14 qualified cornerbacks to have not allowed a touchdown from all season (his 292 coverage snaps from the slot lead that group) and he’s also been one of the best in the game at limiting the production gained from receptions: as mentioned above, his 17 coverage stops are the second-most among corners, he’s one of two corners to have at least 10 coverage stops while also not missing a tackle.

Another reason Josh is done. I saw Kiper has him as a 1st rounder and top 20 pick.

I think one of the biggest problems is that a lot of coaches believe they are so good that they can form the taller, bigger, and faster players into a larger version of King as if what all those guys were missing was their special coaching to make them better.

I hope every year the Bears draft a Hawkeye. Don't they realize their only Superbowl
win occurred when two Hawks started next to each other on the O-line? Idiots.
Over 30 years ago, bit of reach don't ya' think? Or is this a not so serious post?

And if Henry Waecher stayed home and not go to Nebraska there may have been 3 Hawks on that team.

For what it's worth and I also think they made her Horrendous mistake with Dez. They miss evaluate guys like him all the time, so do the star ranking systems.

With all their scouting and analytics it is amazing to me how teams were so wrong on him. It was so obvious to anyone that watched him play at Iowa that he'd be a difference maker in the NFL. Not saying he should have been a 1st rounder but 5th round was ridiculous.

Iowa DB's in NFL under KF (played at least two years in NFL except King/Mabin)

King
Mabin
Hyde
Fletcher
Prater
Godfrey
Considine
Sanders
Spivey
Sapp
Robinson
Bowen
Sash
Pagel

Awesome list we can all be proud of. Is the Robinson on it Damien Robinson? His last year was 1996, so he was a Hayden Fry guy, but still.

CLASSIC KING NO? Said he thought phone wasn't WORKING on draft day.

If memory serves Marcus Paschal and Miguel Merrick both got snaps in the NFL and I'm also pretty certain Jovon Johnson did as well, before he headed up to Canada and became one of the best Db's they've had in the last 20 years.

And don't forget: were it not for cruel misfortune, Greenwood COULD have been on that list.

Once again, a great example of how often allegedly smart people do dumb things. Nice work, Desmond King, fifth rounder.
It is pretty amazing how many teams choose players off of sheer potencial based largely off workouts like the combine, and ignore the volumes of video of players actually playing against top level competition. The same thing will probably happen to Jewell. I doubt he'll be the most impressive LB at the underwear Olympics. All he is, is a great football player.....
