Despite a heartbreaking loss to Wisconsin Saturday, the Iowa Football program still has a shot at wi

There’s eight conference games left, so there’s a lot of football left. Unfortunately, Iowa’s margin for error just got a lot smaller to almost non-existent. @ PSU is now a must win, along with every other game.

The old baseball saying: You can’t win a pennant in April, but you can lose one.

It will take a minor miracle but stranger shit has happened before as college football can sometimes be really unpredictable unless your AlaBUMa... for those who think Whisky will win out or even beat Michigan (they stand no chance against PED U.. but seriously if Iowa can take care of business and win all their games.. even somehow knock off Ped State (Iowa has been pretty good playing at Happy Hawkeye Valley) besides for the ass kicking 2 years ago.. however if we play a careless free football game and not cough up the ball and limit penalties etc .. we can dance with anyone and possibly break dance too ;-)

I will not give up on these Hawks what so ever .. maybe this isn’t the year they head back to Indy however the 2019 Hawkeyes are going to be loaded to the Gill with talent as well as a extremely solid foundation coming back.. let’s not count the chickens before they hatch but as IowaNiceHawk stated “don’t sleep on this Iowa team” as UW drops 2 games and maybe another and Iowa wins besides at PSU.. we could be back in Indy ..

Did you guys happen to watch the isu at Iowa game? Two great defenses. Nail biter. Tough game. Iowa pulls it out. Iowa burns clock in 4th qtr. Iowa runs out clock. Retains lead. Good game. Iowa does not play ISU every week. Unfortunately. But then that would be boring.

Something keeps telling me that Purdue will play spoiler this year. They have to go to Wisconsin, so I think that little voice in my head may still be drunk. Wisconsin has at Mich and at PSU too, but Wisconsin’s only real mistake this year may have been BYU.

Not a chance .... when you lose to E Michigan there’s issues with the defense.. let’s remember that BC beat 3 cupcakes before playing PUDue.. no world beaters there

Wisconsin's D is clearly susceptible to the pass ... and Purdue definitely can pass the ball. However, Purdue's D will have to really come together to weather the storm that is the Wisconsin rushing attack. Of course, they bottled up BC's pretty decent running game - so you never know.

Appy State almost beat PSU at Happy Valley .... by your logic, you'd conclude that there are significant enough issues with PSU's D that they'd likely lose too. College football is weird because young people are unpredictable ... if they're not focussed, your team can lose to just about anybody ... and when they are focussed, you have a chance to win (and even surprise a perceived superior opponent).

I watched the Purdue defense against NU and it was chaos, out of position and missed tackles. Significant improvement against B.C..

Of course, it is also possible that Wisconsin's special teams will completely botch two punt returns and maybe their offense will blow two possessions inside the 10 yard line.

No one should be giving up. Until we lose again there’s a chance to run the table. I think it’s unrealistic though to think we can win the West at this point.

My perspective is to follow what KF does with his team - take it one game at a time. The schedule is sneaky challenging with 2 sets of back-2-back road games. We are always awful the first game after a bye so I’m worried about Minnesota for that reason alone. Indiana is a dead environment so it’s tough to play in. The PSU and Purdue back-2-back road games are tough. The following game is our nemesis with Fitz & NW.

What we know is we don’t score a lot of points. This fact alone keeps teams in games that have no business being in games. Make a mistake or two and you get upset.

The wildcard is Northwestern. They always play Wisconsin close and will need to win for Iowa to have a chance. The problem is they are always a thorn in our side as well.

IF Wis finds a way to lose to NW, Pur, P St, & Mich, I’d still like their chances to go to Indy over Iowa. I think Iowa goes 5-4 in conference play this year.

That's an exaggeration (if WI really loses 4, I think Iowa will stumble into the ccg) but I agree with the spirit of your post. While this might be one of the better teams that Iowa has put on the field, the mistakes made against WI are of a type that point towards Iowa dropping a couple more. Otoh, that USC team in 2002 dropped a couple early...

Ok. Lets say we to win out the regular season lets let at what then normally happens we get destroyed our last few games i dont know why our teams just stop playing football after a good season

Kind sir, are you in Oregon or Colorado?

LOL .... I just hope our Hawks got that crap out of their system. I don't what to see any more self-inflicted wounds like those ... just too painful!

If there was a year we firmly take back the West it would have been this year. Wisconsin is just not that good this year, we had that at home for a night game and couldn’t get it done. We don’t deserve Indy this year.
I agree that I don't think Wisconsin is that good either, but, neither are we. Our pass defense was exposed against Wisconsin.

Amen, the dumbest thing you can do is compare scores. Football is a game of emotion and momentum.

I don’t know about that. Iowa’s pass defense consists of the DL getting to the QB. The Wisconsin OL stopped them from getting there. Most other OLs won’t be able to do it.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin ran the ball very well (surprisingly well?) against Iowa on 1st down which gave them a lot of 2nd and 4 type situations, which put the Defense in a tough spot.

I think Purdue will win the west.
