Remember the good old days when players like Josh Dix didn't have a price?
From June of last year:
From June of last year:
No, not a joke. It did indeed happen.
Yeah it’s a done deal, guys. They aren’t going to announce it the day after Drake’s loss. McCollum is a class act. Let them mourn as a team one last time. Expect an announcement tomorrow.
Iowa will be getting somewhere between 2-4 players from Drake. Also the UNI kid is in talks as well.
Sandfort and Koch would be the most obvious candidates to return from the portal. Somebody tried to report that Sandfort was offered 1 mil. Lol, no. Dix, imo, is a likely no unless Iowa pays him a very large chunk.
Regarding the Iowa beat writers…..not a fan. David is the best of the bunch. The only scoops the rest can get are of the chocolate and vanilla variety. Kind of worthless imo
He supposedly is a pretty good guy, but yeah…that was a low point.so many great people on the Iowa beat lol
gonna be a good day![]()
Good clarification on Cuban.Mark Cuban has not given a dime to IU basketball in any form. Yes, they have the media center by him but as far as NIL, salaries it is not and never has been Mark Cuban. I cannot remember (im old) who the big donors are but you can find that out on the IU forums.
You don't pay Tom Allen $15M in TWO payments to leave, then hire a new coach for more money, increase the assistant salaries without other big donors. That was just for football.
In basketball they pay WV $6M buyout and then $5M per year for 7 years for DeVries plus guarantee him more NIL money than this year which was somewhere between $5M and $6M depending who you talk to.
Anyway I am writing this this morning more about Cuban NOT being the "bank" ... and before the official announcement of your new coach. I have a feeling the IU/Iowa games are going to be a few notches higher in the future with our new coaches. Look forward to it.
If I remember correctly Woodson got around $4M and they paid WV $6M (within 60 days). IUFB did get a good bump, about a $1M per game when they started selling out. It was reported that IU had a $3.1M deficit in FISCAL 2024 but a $5.6M surplus in 2023. Since the NCAA fiscal year is July 1 to June 30, the increase in football revenue was not included in 2024 figures. That deficit included the $15M payoff to Tom Allen in two payments when he was fired.Good clarification on Cuban.
Did IU have to buyout woodson?
Chunk of change but I know IU BB revenues are very strong so manageable.
Probably a good bump in fb revenues this year also.
Is IU athletic dept self-sustaining?
Do they have student fees helping?
Or school/state kicking in?
I agree there will be extra space for IU vs Iowa BB and throw medved and minny into the drake coaching triangle.
I think each team got the coach they wanted from the start. It was rumored that IU's Dolson wanted more experience at the D1 level although IU was in contact with McCollum. Hard to sort out all the rumors for all these coaching hires, no matter the school.Beth had 2 good choices in Ben and, likely, Darian DeVries, but I think it's clear that she got her man.
It will be even more fun now playing Indiana.
But it is not hilarious that we did indeed hire BMac.It's going to be hilarious when we don't hire DD or BMcC
