Yeah, it is kind of a head scratcher.West Virginia? Really?
If you knew how much of an NIL war chest that West Virginia has, you wouldn't be scratching your head. That's the trend right now with coaching searches--can you pay a competitive rate (3+Million) and how big is your NIL to work with? Coaches simply do not want to try and recruit with 1 hand behind their back.Yeah, it is kind of a head scratcher.
Why would he leave West Virginia for Iowa?So glad he’s not going to be the next Iowa coach.
His boy is way way overrated.
Maybe if he can build something at West Virginia we could look at him in a few years.
Because Iowa > West Virginia.........duh.Why would he leave West Virginia for Iowa?
That's how the majority of high major hires go.I’m betting he ends up back at a mid major. Nothing against him as a coach but I don’t think he will succeed at a Power 5 school. Seen it before with a lot of “hot name” coaches.

It'll be interesting to see that play out if and when a coaching change is made here at Iowa. If our NIL is bad as everyone says it is for men's hoops, then we will not be an attractive destination. It is the #1 thing that most coaches seem to care about right now when they make a move.
I was very surprised by this move.West Virginia? Really?
Why would he leave West Virginia for Iowa?
He's leaving Drake not Iowa...Why would he leave West Virginia for Iowa?
Yeah go ahead and get the most relatable young coach out of Iowa city.Gatens to Drake? Former assistant... discuss
The first question in the interview should be "how do you feel about defense?", if they do go after him.Gatens to Drake? Former assistant... discuss

I mean it's all rumors and heresay, but I do talk to AAU coaches and other college basketball people from time to time--that's how I learned that DeVries had interviewed at WVU 2 weeks ago in-between Arch Madness and the NCAA tournament. Is there a website or how are you ascertaining colleges NIL funds? Sincere question as I too agree NIL funds are the most important factor in a college team success going forward for the forseeble future.
ummm, he needs head coaching experience...Yeah go ahead and get the most relatable young coach out of Iowa city.
He might get an interview, but it sounds like Ben McCollum is the candidate to beat here. D2 coach at NW Missouri State--Iowa City native and has won multiple D2 titles.Gatens to Drake? Former assistant... discuss
you mean T Bone Pickens didn't leave OSU enough money for NIL? I know he passed before NIL was a thing, but he sure funded their athletic department.I mean it's all rumors and heresay, but I do talk to AAU coaches and other college basketball people from time to time--that's how I learned that DeVries had interviewed at WVU 2 weeks ago in-between Arch Madness and the NCAA tournament.
Nobody is going to give you an exact figures because that's how schools end up getting extorted by kids to over-pay. But I have heard that WVU's NIL situation is top-5 in the Big 12 which tells me that it's a top-20ish amount in the sport. They had some donors pull funds who were Huggins' loyalists that they have supposedly worked hard to get back.
NIL is also partially the reason that Shrewsberry left PSU for Notre Dame last year and Ed Cooley left Providence for Georgetown (though his marriage situation/affair had some reasons for that as well).
NIL is also supposedly why Oklahoma State has had such a hard time attracting candidates. I've been told it has the worst NIL situation in the entire conference. They are seriously considering Steve Alford as a candidate because of how little traction they got with Devries and May.
Son overrated, new take hereSo glad he’s not going to be the next Iowa coach.

Will be hard to go up against Self, Drew, and now TJ but we will see.Lets see how he recruits. It will be interesting to watch.

B12 BB is the best in the nation right now…sorry. Wva has a strong basketball tradition. I didn’t see a WCa move coming though…must have some serious money and a great opportunity though.Because Iowa > West Virginia.........duh.

The guys that last long term are the exception.
May to Michigan for $3.75 Million per year. Assume DeVries will be similar.B12 BB is the best in the nation right now…sorry. Wva has a strong basketball tradition. I didn’t see a WCa move coming though…must have some serious money and a great opportunity though.
He has already recruited more athletic rosters than Iowa…… at Drake.Lets see how he recruits. It will be interesting to watch.
You’re such a dope.So glad he’s not going to be the next Iowa coach.
