I admit to still playing Red Alert II on my PC and Kane's Wrath on the X-Box. Red Alert III and Kane's Wrath were the last in the C&C series it seems. Everything is first person shooter now it seems.

I love RTS games...maybe I am alone in this, but I would think there would still be a market for a good one.

C&C was fantastic. As was the Age of Empires series.

And yes they have been somewhat killed off by first person shooter games. Also, the kids that play those games don't have the patience or attention skills for strategy games nowadays.

Plenty of still out there today in a "modern" version. The problem seems that you're not willing to give up the joy of the past in order to head into the future.

Here's a list of 8 games that are "similiar" to C&C. Article was written in January 2016

Well, I am always open to trying things. I have heard of Star Craft. Its interesting that they all seem to be PC based.

That much is true. Most of the C&C type of games on consoles are still geared around Halo Wars, LOTR, and other larger name titles. I assume those are probably more geared around FPS and have a thin veil of RTS.

EA basically killed off the C&C Line...someone told me Red Alert III was expensive and did not do well....Its too bad.

The good thing about these games is you can keep playing them.

I used to love the total war series which was turn based strategy in the campaign mode but RTS in battle mode. I don't know if there is a series of games out there that I could recommend more honestly.

Honestly since I've had kids I havn't really kept up at all with video games. They keep me pretty busy and I rarely play video games anymore.

Anymore I relish any chance I have to poop by myself.

Total War is the best nowadays. There is actual strategy involved. IMO, there was no real strategy involved in C&C and Age of Empires. It was basically build the largest army and wipe everyone else out.

My kids got old enough to go on their own. My oldest two play a lot of Destiny, Halo, and sports games. None like RTS like me.

RTS are still around, but mostly on PC. All of them generally open up on PC and then eventually get ported over to console if they're popular enough. I think this is largely due to keyboard and mouse being vastly superior to controller for RTS. This is actually true of FPS as well, but FPS resonate way more with our A.D.D. youth that get the instant gratification of a headshot kill, as opposed to spending time on an RTS build to counter your opponent.

Controller is ridiculously clunky after you play RTS games on a PC.

To be honest with you, most of the new RTS games blow. As far as new ones are concerned, Starcraft is king and everything else is basically a crap in your backyard medieval peasant. The strategy gaming world has moved on to MOBA's (Massive Online Battle Arena's - League of Legends, DOTA, Heroes of the Storm, and Smite being at the top of the heap.)

I was a Starcraft/Brood Wars fiend back in the day. I got so entrenched that I was playing with some of the Korean pro players around the 1999-2003'ish years. Those guys were insanely good. I was really good, but those guys were a whole different level. My only claim to fame was having a replay of a game of mine floating around on some Starcraft websites as an example of how to beat mech Terran with Protoss.

I've played through Starcraft 2 but I just don't have the time to play the amount it takes to be competative in RTS. It's hours and hours of practice, strategy, and muscle memory. I actually recommend watching some Starcraft 2 tournaments on Twitch, it's actually quite entertaining. Those kids make a crap load of money and fill arenas.

If you have a solid PC I highly recommend All 3 of the Starcraft 2 campaigns. They are very well done and the story line is fantastic. I do recommend going back and playing through Starcraft and Brood Wars (the expansion) to get a handle on the story line before taking a foray into Starcraft 2.

Your best bet for RTS is to just go back in play through the classics. I cut my teeth on RTS with the original C&C and played them through Tiberian Sun, which is where they lost me. Red Alert 2 is probably the best of the C&C series in my opinion. Go get a Playstation Emulator and it's pretty easy to download and play some of your old school favorites.

And yes, I'm a gaming nerd and could probably answer any question you could possibly have haha. Unfortunately I missed the window in my youth of where being an online gamer could net you a very lucrative payday. Now I just don't have the time to play at those levels. Bummer.

There is *some* strategy involved but not nearly as much as Total War. In the end C&C and AoE have battles where positioning matters very little so long as the units are where the fighting is and shooting the enemy and 2 armies fight each other until one of them runs out of units and the other goes in and destroys all their buildings.

Total war you have to not only think about where to position your units so they would be most effective but also how many ranks deep they should be. Too deep and they get enveloped and too thin and the cavalry will run right through them. And you have to be careful not to let a single unit get separated and hung out to dry or else their routing can hurt the morale of the entire army.

I play a lot of Yuri's Revenge still. I love this line: "Your fear of helplessness is your best friend savage"

Slight change of topic but it drives me nuts that the majority of iPad games are all Freemium style where you have to be online all the time and its just trying to get you to buy in game credits from them. I would shell out more $$$ for a good RTS game I could play on the airplane every week
