Did I miss the conversation on Iowa State leaving the AAU?

It appears Iowa State is just ripping off the band-aid all at once— accepting the fact they are going to be relegated to an even lower tier due to conference realignment they are also accepting the fact they aren’t an academic worthy institution either.

Sports isn’t driving this.

They’ve recognize their research hasn’t met AAU requirementsso getting out ahead of getting kicked out. Now lack of AAU prob does effect their sports conference resume.

Lack of funding, lack of strong presidential leadership and an over-reliance on corporate/lobby group research brought them here

Their reasoning seems pretty logical, actually.

Don't they still have the Ames National Lab there? Lots of worthwhile research going on, just not NIH-related which is the AAU "priority".
