Did not see a in memoriam for Iowa’s own Cloris Leachman

She was back in 2016 making appearances to the fine arts students at Roosevelt, the Des Moines Social Club and the Des Moines Playhouse (where she got her start). No pic is a contributor to the Playhouse so I escorted her to the event. Always enjoyed the show "Raising Hope" and loved Leachman playing Ma Ma.

She had a relative (daughter or granddaughter) accompany her and sadly it became apparent she was already starting to need help and this trip was a final goodbye to her fans in DM. It was very sad when she looked at a pic of MTM on the screen and it took a bit for things to click and Cloris to realize who it was.

Left the Playhouse that night sadly thinking maybe during those funny Ma Ma scenes she wasn't really acting.

RIP CL.

Raising Hope was excellent its first season. I stopped watching, so I don’t know if it stayed great.

Don't remember the exact circumstance but they changed networks, timeslots, or something and I wasn't able to follow the later seasons as close as the first either.

Leachman was nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of the old senile Ma Ma.

Cloris was born in Des Moines and lived 94 action packed
years. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting
Actress in the film The Last Picture Show. Cloris also
received numerous TV Emmys.

I knew a guy who lived in her house located near Roosevelt High School. I've actually been in the house.

Gov Robert D Ray lived in the house next to Leachman's home.

@LuteHawk , you really are the king of HROT. 🤴

Had a drink with her back in about 1990 at “Old Broadway” bar in Fargo, ND. I was with some friends, saw her at the bar alone. I was a always a fan of hers so I walked over to say hello and struck up a conversation. She was in a traveling Broadway show of some sort. I just remember her being extremely nice. RIP Cloris
