wrote about the difference between Chicago & St Louis fans.

Chicago is the 3rd largest city in the U.S. and St. Louis is the 72nd.

Since 2009 when the Ricketts family bought the Cubs, they have
finished the season under .500 six times and this yr will be 7th.
They have had 2 rebuilding projects in 10 years. The fans accept
this because they won a World Series in 2016,

The last 2 times the Cardinals finished a season under .500 was
2007 and 1999. Their fans expect the team to be a contender
every year and the owners do their best to put a good team on
the field.

Bottom Line: The Cardinals treat their fans like a large market team
and the Cubs treat their fans like a small market team.

Comparing Chicago and St. Louis by city population is disingenuous.

St. Louis' metro area is ranked about 20th in the U.S. They are not a small market team. A lot of what Morrissey wrote about is true, but it's not like the Cardinals are Milwaukee/Cleveland/Cincinnati/Kansas City.

As a Cubs fan, though, I admit that the Cardinals are a very well-run franchise; always have been.

The worst part about the Cubs winning the World Series (and it was easy to see coming) is that their fans have become crybabies.

Value of Cubs is quite a bit higher than Cards. Glancing at a graph it looks like ~ 30% higher. For whatever that’s worth.

1000% agree Lute.

How many “likes” would it take to get you to post about PIITB of one of our Mom’s?

Myself and my circle of Cubs fans definitely aren't accepting this but what can you do besides not go/watch/listen? Since it's clearly just about the money to the Ricketts I'd wish they'd cash out on the huge jump in value of the franchise from when they bought it and go after their dream of owning a soccer team. But they won't. It's amazing how much goodwill with the fans they have squandered in less than 6 years.

Hopefully fans will just stop going until that family gets serious about putting a respectable product on the field but knowing that won't happen is why they wanted to get their greedy mitts on the franchise in the first place.

While I hate everything about the Cardinals, I can't argue with any of that.

I think ricketts will make another run when he thinks they are ready.
After 2016 he knew him and theo had mortgaged the future. The covid year turned a bad farm system, cash and team into a money pit.
He/they were faced with a unaffordable lineup and a potential labor stoppage.
He’s got some $$ to play with now and only a couple bad contracts.
If he trusts his group he’ll start spending/building for 25-27 this year. The 23-24 gap is to large.
Dodgers are paying a tax half the cubs payroll.

Anyone else think it’s funny that, while this thread about the ultra-frugal cubs organization refusing to spend money was building up, one of the few big-money guys they have gave up 9 ER in 4 innings…to the cardinals?

Maybe. But this might be different. Cubs fans are not nearly as patient as they were. That said, it is clear they have talent in the system and some of it is already making it to the big leagues. I just wish they'd keep Contreras around to teach them how to be major leaguers, but it seems the Cubs have other plans.

"The Cardinals know what their fans expect. The Cubs think they know what their fans will swallow"

That pretty much sums it up. Morrissey doing good work calling out the Ricketts' BS

Did we really need anything other than the flags to prove the Cardinals are a better run organization? I’d be pretty floored if you visited any sort of fan forum of the Chicago teams where anyone would suggest otherwise

They did not do nearly enough this year, but it’s not like they’re 5 years away. This team is far better than the Cubs of April-June. There are a number of high end prospects who are close and the Cubs will likely spend a good amount of money this offseason. Last year, they added Stroman and Suzuki and they’ll add more this year. They’ve shown they can build a bullpen in an offseason.

They’re not going to compete with the elites of the league for the World Series, but there’s no reason they can’t compete for the NL Central and the WC.
