DJ Carton

I can imagine the outrage by 80% of Iowa fans if the backcourt for the Hawks is Carton/Carr next season.

Yes I know this won't happen.

why would there be outrage? I know more than 80% wanted Carton to chose Iowa in the 1st place and again over 80% wanted him to transfer to Iowa when he entered the transfer portal.

I am 100% positive that some here would be complaining that Joe T should be getting more minutes whatever happens.

Oh, there would be. And nothing would thrill me more that JT figuring out and becoming the player we all hope he does. However, the numbers bear out that he shouldn't be a starter, nor getting major (20+ mpg) minutes. He does things no one else one the team can do, he also makes more mistakes (per minute) than anyone else on the team.

To be fair to JT, Carton wouldn't be a massive improvement over him. But right now, he's a better player. And if DJ shot 3s at the rate JT did, it would be an even bigger improvement.

Pretty sure DJ sits a year wherever he would transfer to. Immediate eligibility a 1 time thing.

DJ needs to shoot 3s at JT rate to improve? JT hasn’t shot over 30% in his two seasons. DJ shot 40% from 3 for Ohio State last year in 60 attempts which is more than Joe has taken in 2 seasons. Yes, DJ dropped off pretty dramatically this season but still better than JT. Did you mean to type JW instead of JT?

It's like the movie Final Destination....he went against Fate twice in going to OSU and then Marquette, while fighting
the his true Fate which is to sit on the bench behind CMAC at PG.

In your Final Destination movie plot, if DJ chose Iowa that would change the course of CMac’s path of playing a different position? You’re an idiot.

Rate, that means the same number that JT shoots, meaning he needs to shoot the three less.

I see. Guess that would depend if he made them like he did at OSU or misses them like he did this year. His 3 point rate per 40 mins really didn’t change much. 5 shots per 40 min last year vs 5.6 per 40 this year.

Carton's a puke. Made it clear he never had any interest in Iowa and he did it in a clear and condescending manner. Well, he still hasn't played in an NCAA game. Hah!

Carton wasn’t interested the first time but certainly was after the OSU transfer and Fran wasn’t interested in the least.

It’s no coincidence that OSU really took off after Carton left the team last year. It’s important to have team first, non-cancerous teammates.

I don’t think Fran wants anything to do with him.

I agree with you. And, yet, Ohio State choked in the first round, anyway. Not sure Carton was the biggest problem on that team. The fact that they can't play D has been a problem with and without DJ.

Next year will be a very different Iowa team once three of the greatest Hawkeyes of all time (assuming Joe W goes pro) leave. But it seems there has been a culture shift and everyone on the squad currently is bought into the system. I’d say the younger dudes in the back court deserve a crack at it. Carton, while an exciting talent, would likely stir things up more than is needed. Not necessarily because of his personality or character (because I know nothing about that), but it would be Fran telling the younger dudes they aren’t good enough.

You would think Carton would be interested if Fran is. Initially I thought he felt he was too good for Iowa when he went to OSU but then he went to Marquette. I am sure he will be on the radar of some higher profile programs, but he would be a great add. Watching these teams with their quick guards who play tight d makes me nervous about Iowa advancing past the second round.
