Do we see a real push for any state(s) secession the next few years?

Do any states attempt secession?

If trump runs the country into the ground, especially economically, would a state like California say eff it and go solo? Maybe take Oregon and Washington with them. Minnesota go to Canada?

Not so much a pipe dream anymore. Wonder how long until it’s a valid bet on polymarket.

The West Coast just split off?
Maybe Cali but I have to wonder if Oregon and/or Washington say HELL NO we don’t want Cali overshadowing us anymore. We’re staying.

No, it's always stupid when people bring this up as a topic.

Texas is the only state I could imagine ever even thinking about secession, and it would never ever happen even with Texas.

Stupid topic, not worthy of discussion.

If it ever got so bad that Cali goes, Oregon and Washington are going too.

Eventually all of these Exec Order tariffs are going cause material damage and strain upon the economies of certain states, and it's going to create legitimate talk of secession.

No, because that’s not how Blue States roll. Now if the situation was the exact opposite, there would be double digits of Red States and MAGA “patriots” looking to leave.

Which is probably why the talk of OJ and Bourbon (see Thomas Massie) as possible retaliatory tariffs. My understanding is they mostly import Florida OJ.

Could California fly solo.....

Also: "if people had to actually pay what it would cost to insure them to live here no ody could afford to live here"

We won't see it but my guess would be like a eastern/ western Washington situation.

I said no because the poor Red states are probably going to get enough crumbs from the Dumpster to stick it out for this term.

But, being from Iowa and having driven just 30 minutes into Mississippi I would say Miss would leave right now and form their own lowly country. It looked yucky down there. Take Bama and Georgia with ya' all.

Well the western parts of Oregon and Washington would be leaving. The eastern half or more of both of those states are basically like Idaho, very conservative.

Incredibly short view of history.

It’s funny how our poorest states would be top tier in the EU.

Mississippi, the poorest state in the United States, is close to surpassing Europe's largest economy Germany's GDP per capita. Euronews Business compares US states with European countries.

The poorest US state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita is higher than that of Europe's top five economies, except for Germany. However, Mississippi competes closely with Germany, with a difference of just €1,500.

GDP per capita, adjusted for Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), in the US also surpasses that of all EU countries, except for Luxembourg and Ireland, which are outliers.

...

In Q3 2024, GDP per capita in the US ranged from €49,780 ($53,872) in Mississippi to €246,523 ($266,787) in the District of Columbia. At the lower end, West Virginia (€56,554), Arkansas (€56,917), Alabama (€58,061), and South Carolina (€59,375) followed Mississippi.

Among the top five, New York (€107,485), Massachusetts (€101,666), Washington (€99,844), and California (€96,836) followed the District of Columbia. The figures are shown in US dollars in the chart.

For the EU in 2024, GDP per capita ranged from €15,773 in Bulgaria to €125,043 in Luxembourg. The EU average stood at €40,060, while the US average was €80,023 ($86,601).

What our dictator in chief is doing doesn’t bother you at all? Not even a little?
He's 9 days in and liberals are freeking the **** out. Dictator in chief. Just because you keep up that narrative doesn't mean it's true.

Again, how will Cali/left coast afford to secede? Tell me how that works.

Staying in a tizzy for four years can’t be healthy.

Agreed. Thinking I might have to take the idiot magat approach of blissful ignorance. Unfortunately for me, I’m not ignorant and I work in a career where trumps reckless behavior is front and center.

12 days, but who is counting? No states are seceding. As far as the dictator argument. Unfortunately, it’s true.

Dictatorships are often characterised by some of the following: suspension of elections and civil liberties; proclamation of a state of emergency; rule by decree; repression of political opponents; not abiding by the procedures of the rule of law; and the existence of a cult of personality centered on the leader.

Seriously? You really think it would be a good idea to give the president an excuse to engage the war powers domestically? I do like the irony though given how the legal argument about secession authority is generally laughed at and derided in the context of civil war history though.

Talk has already started. Why, because again Russian propaganda farms are pushing it. They’re going to win the Cold War without doing anything more then spending a little cash on Facebook.
