Identify the underlying issues that create inequalities and work to fix them. Access to healthcare. Generational wealth accumulation. Housing. Schools. Law enforcement. Etc.How is this whataboutism? What urohawk said is spot on.
Please explain what me as a white male can do to fix racism?
Restructuring public safety to provide expertise where it is needed by trained professionals means reallocating funds that go to "police" today. We need police and crime prevention. We don't need the experts responsible for hard crimes and violence to be writing speeding tickets, for instance. We do need more mental health experts to work the field. There are a number of specific areas involved with public safety that need well trained experts in that field having primary responsibilities. Now, we have "the police" who are responsible for all areas but lightly or non-trained in any one of the fields.Tell us what's the end goal? Defund police?
I absolutely agree with the statement "Black Lives Matter", but I don't blindly follow the movement as there are multiple tenets I simply don't agree with (most specifically the socialism and de-emphasizing of the nuclear family). I can get on board with the police reform aspect, but the very fabric of this nation was based on traditional Western principles and it disappoints me that so many people are willing to flush those principles down the toilet. It's not going to magically erase classism, sexism, racism, etc. Russia and China have long been the objects of criticism and ridicule.
This is a misrepresentation. BLM does not suggest black men are being "hunted" - rather black men are disproportionally addressed with force, suspected/detained solely for being black and have penalties that are greater than whites. We know this to be true.BLM was founded on a lie. If fact, it was founded on several lies.
Police are not systematically hunting black people. The statistics, based on interactions, do not support the claim.
We have a problem with incompetent cops. They shoot white people too. Defunding the police is counterproductive to fixing the problem.
Did anyone see the story of the Arlington woman who was shot in the chest by a cop? Unarmed, sitting in the grass with her dog. Cop approaches, dog barks and moves toward the cop, cop draws gun and shoots at dog. Misses the dog, kills the woman.
Did that make national news? I live in Dallas and I don't remember seeing it on the local news. Want to know why? Woman was white, cop was brown. This happened in November. The cop was just indicted last week.
My point being that incompetence is the problem, not racism. If, as BLM claims, black lives mattered, they'd be interested in tackling the issue that takes the most black lives. Exponentially more black lives are lost at the hands of criminals than cops.
If BLM as an organization were to address that, I'd be right along side of them.
So it doesn’t say that on their own website? If what you say is what they believe then their website should be updated with a better explanation.BLM doesn’t de-emphasize the nuclear family. All they are saying is that they want community members helping to care for children in non-traditional families. That isn’t a controversial stance in any way, shape, or form. The idea that BLM wants to destroy the nuclear family is a right-wing talking point that has absolutely zero merit.
So it doesn’t say that on their own website? If what you say is what they believe then their website should be updated with a better explanation.
I am definitely in support of the broader community helping to a certain extent, but first and foremost an intact nuclear family should be raising their own.
I’ll have to go back and find where I copy and pasted it. It definitely didn’t say anything about the requirement when I looked, just the idea of nuclear family. They took it off their website because people were misinterpreting it and using it to push their own agenda. It never said that they rejected the nuclear family construct, only that they rejected the idea that a nuclear family should be a REQUIREMENT in society.
Hopefully those last dots were you falling off of a bridge.
Open a calendar, you may not be aware it's 2020. Your life would be so much more joyful if you joined the 21st century. Slavery has been gone for over 155 years. I know people are evil, whites are racist, blah, blah you really need to go to a spa or have a lobotomy.I can't help you. This has been discussed at nauseum. Choose to stay ignorant then. Or look up redlining. Or look up Jim Crow laws or what other bills/laws they were tied to.
You seem to come from the "they just need to work harder" side. You need to look at 350 years of history. Again, blacks weren't even considered equal until 55 years ago. You think THAT's enough time, after 300 plus years of the laws of the nation designed to keep them from gaining land or wealth, or having success, to find the same success, in droves, that whites have. Freaking figure this shit out. This isn't bull. Our system in this country was WHITE SUPREMACY for centuries.
I’ll have to go back and find where I copy and pasted it. It definitely didn’t say anything about the requirement when I looked, just the idea of nuclear family.
Nice try, you are so ignorant. Wake up BLM is a Marxist group, accept it, they have. They took it off their website because people were misinterpreting it and using it to push their own agenda. No, they took their reference to the nuclear family down. Here's what it said before:So it doesn’t say that on their own website? If what you say is what they believe then their website should be updated with a better explanation.
I am definitely in support of the broader community helping to a certain extent, but first and foremost an intact nuclear family should be raising their own.
Biggest pussy on the board getting all tough. Lmao.Go fück yourself. Weak ass.
I agree with the idea but not the formal organization. I believe this is how most people feel.
But equal rights have only been here for 55 years. You think that's enough time to fix 300 plus years of suppression? You are arguing in a simpleton way. Educate yourself about systemic racism. Learn about the GI Bill being tied into Jim Crow laws and how that helped whites only...not black people who fought for the USA in WW2. Learn about redlining. If you really put the time into it you wouldn't think like you do. I know, because I used to think like you do. Then I got it.Open a calendar, you may not be aware it's 2020. Their "movement" is based off of flawed data and uninformed emotion. A strong no from me even before the rioting and looting.
Now if they changed their messaging and actually talked about REAL black problems, then yes I would be.
This I gotta hear.Their "movement" is based off of flawed data and uninformed emotion. A strong no from me even before the rioting and looting.

I've got money on single parent families. So black people being unfairly stereotyped and discriminated against by police isn’t a real problem? I’m curious, what would be a REAL “black problem” in your mind? I’m going to guess that list in your mind starts (and probably ends) with black on black crime?
“Aint noone more woke than me!”Biggest pussy on the board getting all tough. Lmao.
Life must be so awful for you. It will be okay, take a bath, turn off the news and meditate. I feel sorry for someone who looks for the worst in everything. But equal rights have only been here for 55 years. You think that's enough time to fix 300 plus years of suppression? How about calling black students who take pride in their grades and education, "trying to be white". How about using criminals as role models like Michael Brown, how about degrading African Americans who identify as conservative despite their accomplishments. (I saw that last night after the AG from Kentucky explained the grand juries decision.) He was ridiculed after his announcement proving this latest bru-ha-ha was all politics and had nothing to do with the facts. So black people being unfairly stereotyped and discriminated against by police isn’t a real problem? I agree with what you say here. But I am not in power to change any of these issues. In fact, these issues are not unique to black people.Identify the underlying issues that create inequalities and work to fix them. Access to healthcare. Generational wealth accumulation. Housing. Schools. Law enforcement. Etc.
The biggest issue is that those who are wealthy and in power are not compelled to help those who aren't because that might mean sharing some of their wealth and power. Until those who have are committed to evening the playing field, and really making it level - not token gestures to try to make it seem that way, this problem will exist and continue to divide the country.

Yes, it made national news. As did the indictment. And I believe the woman was Hispanic.
Incompetence is the problem. The point BLM brings out is it shows up more in dealing with the black community. So let's fix it. Get rid of an antiquated system of public safety and rebuild it with experts who are well trained and experienced in specific areas.
While Lebron is not officially a spokesperson for BLM, he is a black figure with power and money. When he says something like this, for some reason people believe it.
Its time to call a spade a spade. Lebron is not a black person who is being held back because he is black. As a public figure he probably gets his fair share of hate, but that would happen no matter what color or race he was. People can be evil and some truly are racist, so I have no doubt that he receives racist comments/actions against him, but he is not being "hunted everyday/everytime he steps foot out of his house".
I was using the mid-1500s version of this idiom"Time to call a spade a spade" when referring to LeBron? You're kidding, right?
How'd you know?Biggest pussy on the board getting all tough. Lmao.
You can do something. Due for people who are advancing programs to help the disadvantaged. Being white is an advantage. It's not the be-all, entail but it most definitely is an advantage. If you can't come to terms with that focus on leveling the playing field for all who are disadvantaged. Support things like universal healthcare, discarding gerrymandering, balancing the wealth gap and the like. There's plenty you can do by just doing your small part, consistently and diligently.I agree with what you say here. But I am not in power to change any of these issues. In fact, these issues are not unique to black people.
As a middle class white male I feel some of these same issues (granted to a lessor extent). But there are millions of white people and people of other races who are in the same boat as black people here. I would love to make changes to the system to improve these issues but I don't know what to do or how to help. I do not trust our politicians especially the dems and repubs who represent the establishment. These people are not acting in the interest of black people or in my interest either. They are out for their own political and financial gain.
You nailed it here when you said "Until those who have are committed to evening the playing field, and really making it level- not token gestures... This problem will exist". These are the 1% who have the wealth and power. Not your average white person. Stop focusing on saying ALL white people are advantaged, and instead lets join forces and have all disadvantaged people come together to fight the 1% at the top to even things out for everyone. The disadvantaged black people might have the most to gain by doing this.
I see the BLM movement as a sort of pissing match trying to prove who is worse off. Stop alienating the poor and disadvantaged white people by saying they have it better than black people (some don't). Embrace the fact that color is one way people are discriminated against, but it is far from the only way. The reality is that there are a lot of people who could benefit from change. I have no more in common with those 1%ers at the top than a poor black person has in common with Lebron James.
99% of people know this is a derogatory term. The fact that you didn't is on you.I was using the mid-1500s version of this idiom
Call a spade a spade
The idiom call a spade a spade has its roots in Classical Greece. We will examine the phrase call a spade a spade, where it came from and some examples of its use in sentences.grammarist.com
I honestly did not know this had racial undertones. I had to look it up after seeing your post. This is the problem with taking offense to everything. You can't change our language and culture overnight and expect everyone to keep up. I bet 99.9% of people could not tell you the origin of such a phrase. I would also bet 99.9999% of people would not intentionally use this as a derogatory term. I can just imagine someone saying this in the office to a black person then celebrating quietly because he really told him off.... not buying it.
Sometimes people just go looking for things to complain about. This is one of those instances.
Funny how your definition of doing "your small part" as you describe it, is to accept socialist principles. And you were even helpful enough to list them for us. How about you do "YOUR" small part and accept everyone should strive to make it on their own. Working hard, play by the rules, be an example to others. Volunteer and donate to charities and the needy. That's American, Cuba is the country to the south. You can do something. Due for people who are advancing programs to help the disadvantaged. It's not just the responsibly of the top 1%.
The things you list are fine attributes to promote - if everyone starts from the same point. Fact is, they don't and that is what needs to be solved.Funny how your definition of doing "your small part" as you describe it, is to accept socialist principles. Life must be tough for you. It was a piece of cake for me. Stop with the whining, I know you can do better. What about Clarence Thomas, Condoleza Rice, Frederick Douglas, etc, how did they do it? You have to want to succeed and not want someone else's handouts..The things you list are fine attributes to promote - if everyone starts from the same point. The old "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" only works if you have boots.
