Watching the all star game and Mastercard is sponsoring Stand Up To Cancer. It made me wonder - does anyone actually have a Mastercard any more? I figure it's 4th behind Visa, Amex, and Discover.

I don't think there's any way they could be a smaller company than Amex, also, now that I finished reading OP. Mastercard operated on a network of banks/creditors from the jump, they were the processing service and not the creditor. AmEx does both and they don't offer products for people with bad credit. MasterCard does business with all kinds of creditors who extend credit to anyone they legally can. I would bet market cap goes something like Visa, MC, Amex, Discover.

As is sometimes the case, it looks like I thought wrong. And that's cool with me.

FWIW, I have 2 Visa CCs, and my debit card is Visa.

I've had Amex company cards in the past.

I just don't recall even seeing junk mail for MC.

It looks like you may be right. Good call!

Yup, the junk mail for MC cards wouldn't have said Mastercard anywhere. It'd be offers from creditors with names like First Bank of Maquoketa or The People's Choice Finance or We're Affiliated With A Large Bankruptcy Firm of the West

Capital One Quicksilver, “what’s in your wallet”, is technically a World Elite MasterCard.

Visa and MC don’t issue direct, I don’t believe. They issue cards through member institutions, e.g. Citibank.

I would imagine the racial agitators will eventually force Mastercard to change their name.
That might be a worthy temporary grift if I lose or quit my job. Please don't start using this line with the smokers outside, Trad, I may want to use this to fundraise and live off for a period of time

Visa followed by MasterCard are by far the largest market cap companies. I like both companies. MA is 3 times AXP (3rd place) in terms of market cap.

I don’t see much differentiation in the big brands other than Amex is not as widely accepted as the others with visa and MasterCard a slight edge to discover. Sure points and whatever but at the end of the day i don’t see how one could be loyal to one over the other.

Now the underlying banks or companies can make a difference with point programs but point programs have little to do with which of the big four facilitate it.

Chase Sapphire Reserve (visa)
Chase Freedom (visa)
Amex Company Card

I haven't seen a MC in years, surprised it's still around honestly.

A high percentage of Iowa City area people are gonna have Mastercard (and I'm one of them) because we bank at the former University of Iowa Community Credit Union (not affiliated with the University, now known as Green St Credit Union thanks to Iowa Republicans).

Known to most IC area people as "the Credit Union".

Hilton Honors AMEX
Marriott VISA
IHG MasterCard
Capital One Venture
Debit Card = MasterCard
Had Discover at one point but cancelled.

Personal MC (use for online transactions & gas only)
Work MC (use for work)
Shared Visa (wife uses)

Had the personal & shared CC's since my early 20's so won't ditch them. Thinking about getting a Fidelity Visa to replace usage of the personal MC for the 2% cash back, which I would simply transfer into my brokerage account.

AMEX and Visa for me. Got rid of the MC a year or two ago......one of them needed to go.

Under It’s gleaming white titanium skin, the Apple Card is a MasterCard.

Depending on the purchase, I use:

Chase Sapphire Reserve (all bills autopay for max points)
Chase United Select (now discontinued I think, but triple points on United)
Apple Card (daily small stuff, and Apple subscriptions/hardware)
Marriott BonVoy AMEX (only for Marriott/Starwood).

GM MasterCard that allows you $500 per year, up to 7 years worth of dollars toward the purchase of a new vehicle ($3,500 off) Had the Gold one that allowed $1k for seven years ($7k) off a new vehicle purchase. Love pulling that out when asked if additional monies will be used. It’s the old card that can be used all the time toward a GM purchase.
