Does anyone on HROT do any volunteer work?

I volunteer to whitewash OP's mom's insides daily. She gladly accepts.

I volunteer to give ops mom moisturizer for her face every day. It’s the reason why she doesn’t look a day over 80.

Volunteer to coach my kids sports, roadside cleanup, hoops for hunger which is playing high school kids in basketball for canned foods, shop with a cop, and city council. I think it's important to give back in someway.

I don't formally volunteer. I need to start doing so. I typically make the excuse that I take a paycut for working at an academic center where I care for the poor and disenfranchised. It's sort of my community giving back. I also do medical mission trips on my own expense.

Have a lot of old people around me in the winter so I snow blow the neighbors drive and force my kids to shovel sidewalks. It's taught them a good lesson about helping people out. They are finally starting to figure it out.

I volunteer for two organizations. I drive for the Riders Club of America. It's a low/no cost ride service for people who can no longer drive. Mainly volunteer on Sunday mornings for that taking seniors/disabled folks too/from church. I am also the President of the Swisher Men's Club. We give out scholarships to Seniors at Prairie HS and give to various other charities, projects and families in need in the community and local area.

Volunteer Fire Fighter, volunteer coach, volunteer habitat for humanity, donate blood, Lions club member as well.

I'm on the board of three non-profits, each of which is a working board. I teach Art at the Boys & Girls Club. I coach basketball at my high school.

Volunteer Thursday's after work at a children's hospital. Took a sabbatical to coach my son's baseball team but going back to the volunteering in 2 days.

Youth sports, church, youth clubs/organizations, stuffing boxes with meals, junior achievement.

I've been a volunteer baseball, soccer, football and basketball coach.

I have also done a few stints with Habitat for Humanity

Wish I had more time to volunteer more!

I used to do more. Big Bother. Charity bike give aways. Now I volunteer at a local church that does free meals to under privileged. I do it about 4 times a year. I also work the Zach Johnson event every year in CR.

Nothing like getting a shout out on a 5 year old reply. I'd like to say I've matured since then, but I would be lying.
until you pointed it out i had no idea this was a ancient thread…still good to know we’ll be like this always

Working in finance for 40 years I sit on the finance committee of several boards, arts and kids are my preference

As I get ready to retire hope to find opportunities to educate and support people navigating our complex financial world. Can’t count how many times wife (np) has said thank God you are a finance guy, how do people do it that aren’t

I volunteer with an organization that provides beds to children that don't have one. It is amazing the conditions that some children have to live in.

Wife and I frequently help at blood drives. Have done habitat for humanity (or the equivalent thereof) a few times, weekend repairing and painting houses for old folks followed by burgers and beer. As an Elks club member we do welcoming kits and help homeless vets that find housing get settled.
Just got hooked up with Bach to Rock (kids music). Giving free drum lessons.

I've probably coached 800 or so kids in various sports through the years, all volunteer. Coached both of my boys in soccer & baseball from around age 5 until they aged out at 16 to 18, and long before they were born I coached in a youth basketball league (one of the kids I coached back then was Michael Penix Sr, dad of Atlanta's QB), assistant coach in youth football a couple of years. I've also served numerous times on boards of the local youth sports leagues, and do the leagues' tax filings pro bono. I'm also very active in my local Kiwanis Club; our charitable efforts are concentrated on needy children in the area.
My dad served as the Treasurer for the local Little League for 43 years; one of the fields at the park is named in his honor. It was a lot of fun having my sons play ball on the field named for their grandfather, with him in the stands cheering them on.

i did that once for an organization called Sleep In Heavenly Peace. I transported and put the bed together. It was awesome but allergies made my eyes water too much.

I volunteer with three inner city Chicago community based non profits. I provide pro bono consulting support on organization, board governance, strategy, fund raising, and leadership development. One is an economic development org, another an after school program and the third is a partnership group dedicated to uplifting other non profits.

Feels good to use my 30 years of corporate skills for good.

That's the organization. My wife and I have helped deliver 150 beds in the last 3 1/2 years.

I have volunteered at my church in many ways over the years. I am currently the chair of the music ministry and am leading the search committee for our new organist. I also volunteer taking pictures. I have taken pics of 5K races for groups that can't afford a photog, but the most enjoyable volunteer experience has been volunteering taking wedding pics for couples that can't pay a photographer, I've done that at least three times.
