Does Jesus approve of flipping houses?

I suspect that Jesus was fine with people using their capital for speculative purposes. The flippers do provide a modicum of liquidity to housing markets, so they are useful to have around.

Junk houses are probably about as liquid as junk bonds, and the various credit swap devices in a severe housing downturn, so don't become too envious. At some point most of the flippers will attempt one flip too many.

As long as one isn't cheating people out of money while doing it, I don't see why He'd have an issue with it.

I don't see a problem with that profession from a Christian prospective. It is of course a highly risky business to be in. But that does not necessarily make it evil.

You're buying something at a cost to you, putting in some sort of work or effort into it, and eventually selling it for a higher amount than you paid for it. That's like 90+% of all business.

He would approve, but only to a point.

If you’re getting filthy rich, he would not be cool with it.

Keep just enough for your living expenses and give the rest to the church or the poor.

Rich men don’t get into heaven.

Matthew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Luke 12:33

Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.

1 Timothy 6:17-19
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

Luke 8:14
And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.

Matthew 19:21
Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
Psalm 23:1

A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

Colossians 3:2

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

I don't think Jesus would have a problem with someone buying old run down houses, making them better, and selling them for a profit. What he wouldn't be fine with is people doing that while refusing to pay their employees, or demanding they work for extreme low cost while they make massive profits and live a life of luxury. Gentrification is probably something that He would have some concern about as it often does have a method of making one person with money lots more money while making the lives of those who were already struggling to live there even poorer.

In general however, I don't think Jesus is opposed to making a profit and having a living. He's opposed to the love of that money. Take your profit and provide for your family what you need, and then take the rest and provide for those less fortunate than you.

I would like to think that Jesus cares as much about flipping houses as he does about who wins the Super Bowl. Which is not at all.
