Only in the fall so you know to put blankets over your garden / flowers so they make it past an early frost. Once it hits October-ish they stop.

-15 is the expected low for Tuesday night / Wednesday morning. I'm sure they'll put out a tweet or something about that. Otherwise we just roll with it and drink a lot.

Protect small pets? its 17 degrees here and our labs have been outside all day. Protect small children? WTF? In Iowa 31 degrees is a "play outside day" in the winter.

I know this might sound shocking Trad, but sometimes we go days, heck even sometimes weeks at a time without the temperature ever going over the freezing mark.

We're just whining because it's our cold season. Next week it will be 70 and beautiful.

I heard they were issuing Iguana Warnings in Florida as a result of this. Said iguanas might start falling from trees and such?

...HARD FREEZE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 possible.

* WHERE...Inland Volusia and Northern Lake Counties.

* WHEN...From late Saturday night through Sunday morning.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Yup, iguanas and cubans. Watch out. Buddy had to have the hood on his car replaced after an encounter with a 200lber

What, no warning for the homeless.

Methinks this type of thing is pretty much any time they issue any kind of “storm warning”...just read the fine print.
Here , these warnings and watches are much more common and the reporting stations (local media) might not include them every time a warning/ watch is issued. I bet it’s just all part of the announcement, though.
