Has anyone here ever worked for or have knowledge of this industry? My son is being recruited by several of these companies. They appear to be pyramid schemes. Top guys flashing Lamborghinis on TikTok and they recruit.

A couple of the names, not sure about the spelling. Greenx, Grit Marketing, Aptiva.

The one he spoke to last week was out of Utah. I looked up the guy. Former Mormon Youth minister listed on his linked in.

None of it smells right to me. Problem is, we actually know a guy locally who is, according to him bragging, is making ridiculous money. In Omaha. Guy drives a Lambo.

Yes, bad idea. I tell those people to go away from my Nest Doorbell. Go have him work for retail (cell phone) or a used car salesman. I'm being serious if we're talking this level of work.

Does he have any strengths you could align an entry level job to that isn't door to door soliciting?

I can't imagine door to door sales guys really having any level of success.

I abhor when those guys ring my doorbell. I answer the door (even though I see who it is on the ring cam) and give them a quick, but polite "No thanks, I'm not interested - have a good day!". I would have thought this response was pretty much universal at this point - if people even open the door for them.

They're basically in-person spam.

I like to look back and holler “grab the dog somebody is at the door! And hang on to him this time!”

Straight A student. No desire to go to college. Mature, charismatic and entrepreneurial. I’ll bet he’ll either be in sales or own his own business.

It sounds 80% like a scam.

He could get into real estate or med tech sales or start his own business.

My SIL sells Mary Kay and at one point was driving a MK BMW. She refused to admit it was pyramid scheme for the first couple years when she was all in and making good money. She realizes it now but has enough people under her that she doesn’t really need to sell much to break even.
If he’s smart and self driven, he could probably make some decent money even if it is a pyramid scheme. It pays to be at the top.

Most all of those door to door kids selling pest control are LDS. They’re recruited because they simply aren’t deterred by people saying no.
And they make $$$.
Oddly, my company wanted us to door knock if we had time. lol. I never had/have time for that nonsense.

The son of a customer of mine is making $150k/year cold calling for health insurance. He’s 21.

Funny story. Played golf with a guy who was a pest control guy. Was at Smithsonian and made a comment about apparent minimal pest security for Abe Lincoln’s hat. Docent overheard him and took him to building super who freaked out about potential for moths to eat hat.

Long story short, guy got himself a nice government contract that set himself up for retirement

This sounds like wasteful spending
