Dresser to ISU official.

VT's AD says "Everyone deserves the right to go home"....so does that mean he will grant a release to VT comitted athletes? I hope he does. That will prove that all of Tom's ire is rightfully merited.

Prepare for a powerhouse/dynasty to be immediately formed when the ISU vets meet the isu/vt recruits and transfers. That might just put them in contention for the strap……:p

I think this is a great hire for ISU ... about as good of an outcome as the Cyclone program could have hoped for ... Dresser knows the state of Iowa. He was a winner at the high school level and did a great job with Virginia Tech.

While I'm not an ISU fan (I graduated from there and I covered ISU wrestling) ... I really learned to respect the sport of wrestling. Having the opportunity to be there when Gibbons stepped down and Bobby Douglas came on board ... Was a great time for me to be a sports writer and cover ISU wrestling ...

This is a good hire ... not just for Iowa State ... but for college wrestling ... ISU should always be a Top 10 program (in my opinion) ... I still hope we keep kicking their a** ... ;)

Pollard and Dresser agreed to a seven-year deal worth a total of $2.25 million in guaranteed salary plus incentives. His base salary for next year is $300,000. Similar to other high profile personnel announcements at Iowa State, the hiring is pending a university background check.

Annoint him the greatest ISU wrestler of all time after he wins NCAA's this year. I think the PD3 issue will solve itself. My question is how does PD3 clear the NCAA clearinghouse? After reading his twitter, he is 2 trees short of a hammock.

You can't wrestle at the NCAAs if your team doesn't even take you to the qualifying tournament.

Hey he's not a lock yet. It says he has to pass a background check. I remember several bar incidents with wrestlers in Iowa city in the 80's. The PD hated it when Gable would show up. They said he was one ornery sob at 2:00am. I have to admit I don't ever remember KD being involved.

I think this is a great hire. I have been of the opinion that Iowa high school wrestling has been on the decline in the past few years and bringing Dresser "home" may help that situation. The return of three competitive Division I programs in the state might just be the impetus to all three schools getting quality in-state recruits. Grand View may suffer a little, but if you believe in "trickle down economics" all Iowa colleges benefit from this hire. Welcome, "Dirt".

Only one question on the hire. Since ISU pays its coaches from the general fund and not from athletic revenue as does the U of I, how is it that Dresser appears to have a higer overall compensation package than does Brands?

Hmmmm...first I have heard of that regarding ISU coaches. Got a link?

Dresser was paid what it took to get him from VT. His contract will only help Brands' cause when it is time for him to re-up.

ISU's athletics department is self-funding, like Iowa's. The Legislature mandated this a decade or so ago; Iowa became self-funding three or four years before ISU did. UNI still uses general funds.

And ISU supports fewer sports.

I'm wondering about this--not to in any way to downgrade Dresser, but just to see if my memory is good, cause I thought I remembered something along those lines, maybe after his NCAA win. If so, he would be only in his 20's and certainly not something that should be held against him or anyone else like that. Like bringing up Brian F's apt. thing, which someone did to me recently. But, darn, is my vague memory of a Dresser incident wrong or not? If wrong, who am I thinking off?
