Dresser to ISU? --> per IAWRESTLE

Here is how it went...

KD: I hate Iowa.
JP: I don't like them either.
KD: Do you like oranges?
JP: I shouldn't have let Fred leave.
KD: I really want to wrestle Iowa. This is my chance to but I need to have my current guys come with me. VT said it was OK if they transferred. I believe them.
JP: Who are you?

Hopefully he takes the job before Terry does.
Terry isn't interested in Pollard and Iowa State so why do some keep throwing it against the wall? It doesn't do anything positive for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Speaking of Iowa State, people should check out their thread about Iowa ducking Vag Tech. The hate for everything Iowa over there is like a disease. I don't understand how any Hawkeye fan could root for that program.

There's talk on the street that sugar in Blacksburg is too sweet for Dressler to leave VT……

The Pitt hire will be interesting. I get the sense they are more serious about the sport this time. Need a RTC though to attract the best coaches and wrestlers.

Strong College presences in communities with a rich wrestling history are vital to the sport. We need ISU & Minnesota to pull themselves out of the ashes. We need a strong Pitt program. We need a Texas or UCLA program. If ISU gets Dresser, the only way that can get messed up is by Pollard.

I see this as a bargaining chip to get an extension and raise at VT.

I agree. The timing of this is kind of strange imo. Seems like in most sports, interviews are conducted after the season. What if he accepts, does Dresser coach VT through nationals? Is so, do they have a good tournament knowing their coach is leaving?

There are likely many factors, plus and minus, that are in play here.

Definitely agree it would likely be a great coup for ISU if they pull it off.

I think whatever the result, it would be a smart move for anybody not named Tom, Tom, Cael, John and a few others. Say what you want but they put together a hell of a recruiting class and if a coach can double his class, ISU would be right in think of it...like in two years. A second caveat is getting Pollard to commit to the program by giving up $$$ for assistants and facilities renovation. If he is not on board, stay where you are at.

I think Dresser wanted an office in Iowa City where Brands now sits and raised so much hell last year because he had a team that could beat Iowa for once and wanted to put the narrative forward that they have the wrong Hawk at the helm at Carver...If he could do that at VT, just think what he could do at Iowa kind of thing. Problem is that Iowa trounced VT six years into Dresser being at VT back in 2012. Plus last year was the first time he finished ahead of Iowa and it was his best team and they barely did it.

Yes it is, but ISU may have another candidate ready to sign now. I doubt Dresser would hop on a plane mid-season to interview for a job unless it was a now-or-never situation.

True, and I now that I think about it, it happens a lot in college football right around bowl season. However, there aren't many college wrestling head coaching vacancies, so it's not like Dresser may be taking another job someplace else; same goes for the potential other candidate.

Could also be that Dresser is leveraging this into more $$$ at VT

Depending on commitment level, I'd choose Pitt over ISU. Right on that PA/Ohio boarder. Best recruiting location in college wrestling.

The problem is it falls short of ISU in almost every other way and you would have to take those shortcomings and try to beat Ohio, PSU, now Iowa, the other programs in that region and really everyone else for recruits. ISU is still, overall, better positioned for success than Pitt.
