Dresser to ISU? --> per IAWRESTLE

I think whatever the result, it would be a smart move for anybody not named Tom, Tom, Cael, John and a few others. Say what you want but they put together a hell of a recruiting class and if a coach can double his class, ISU would be right in think of it...like in two years. A second caveat is getting Pollard to commit to the program by giving up $$$ for assistants and facilities renovation. If he is not on board, stay where you are at.

I think Dresser wanted an office in Iowa City where Brands now sits and raised so much hell last year because he had a team that could beat Iowa for once and wanted to put the narrative forward that they have the wrong Hawk at the helm at Carver...If he could do that at VT, just think what he could do at Iowa kind of thing. Problem is that Iowa trounced VT six years into Dresser being at VT back in 2012. Plus last year was the first time he finished ahead of Iowa and it was his best team and they barely did it.
And if not for Stoll blowing out his knee right before Big Tens, Iowa would have finished comfortably ahead of them last year.

Initial reaction, bad move for Dresser. Recruiting has to be better / easier on east cost than at ISU. Recruiting pool is bigger out east. His chance of success has to be better where he is.

Likewise.

Wonder if I should take you both off "Ignore" so I can see what you're saying to each other...............

All kidding aside, this is a home run for Iowa State. Hopefully we start to have some exciting dual meets

Be interesting who dresser puts in at 84 next year. I hear he loves real estate developers with deep pockets?

Love message boards and social media. Two threads re: Dresser ... people saying "it's a done deal, etc." ... And here we are ... no official word ... I guess fun to speculate and toss out the "I heard ..." ...

Well in peoples defense, there was an article written saying it was confirmed, and also FLO ran a story on it saying it was confirmed.

Good, he seems like a Grade A winy D-bag. Fits the hating ISU narrative well. I assume he will refuse to accept any transfers from V-tech until they wrestle there 1 more year to see if they want to stay.
VT could very well give the head job to Robie. There won't be a ton of thinking about staying or going if that's the case.

Wonder what Tom & Terry's tweet will be to him?

If you completely discount the last 50 years of College Wrestling, this is true.

Nobody ever heard of Virginia Tech Wrestling until Tom Brands took it over. After all the tears dried when he left, their program was no longer on life support like it was since it's inception. It was in fact in better shape than it had been in the history of Va. Tech Wrestling (as I stated at the time and will until they close the coffin lid - mostly because it's so damn obvious to anyone with a clue).

Dresser and Co. did a nice job maintaining and having some success. Iowa State is a plum job just waiting to be plucked by the right person. Whether Dresser is that person or not I don't know. Iowa State's biggest problem IMO is most of their recruits didn't improve under Kevin Jackson, so if Dresser recruits near the same and can actually Coach'em up a bit, they'll be in decent shape.

Looking forward to throttling him and them in the future.

I have had a lot of people ask me why Dresser and the VT program kept McFadden in redshirt when he was winning all those tournaments earlier in the year and looked like he improved immensely after the injury.

Does anyone think this might have been something Dresser/ISU had in the works for quite some time and Dresser wanted McFadden to stay in redshirt in order to make it easier for him to transfer to ISU this season? I know it is a conspiracy theory, but it makes a lot more sense now. I'm not 100% sure on the rules regarding transfers nowadays but it seems like things get a little easier if the athlete has not wrestled attached for VTech in over a year.

Doesn't make sense. If he Redshirts this year, he'd lose a year next year if he wasn't granted a release.

It would make more sense if he was wrestling this year and saving his RS season for one where he had to sit out from transferring.

I'm just thinking about the Micic situation leaving NU for Michigan. Didn't they retroactively count his redshirt season or something or am I way off? It's been a very long week mentally so my brain is a little fried today.

Micic redshirted his freshman year at Northwestern, then transferred to Michigan after his RS year, I think shortly before the Pariano firing.

He was granted a release, however he was going to be forced to lose a year of eligibilty (think Cortez) due to in-conference transfer. But due to some extenuating circumstances, likely something to do with the NW situation, the NCAA gave him his year of eligibility back. Instead of sitting his first year at michigan, he qualified for an Olympic redshirt due to his JR world bronze, so thats why he sat out last year. This year he is considered a RS FR for eligibility, and will have 3 years remaining after NCAAs.

Thanks LaxHawk. How would it work now if McFadden wanted to follow Dresser to ISU? It is not B10 to B10 so the auto sit a year conference policy wouldn't matter in this situations correct?

You're correct; however, he would still have to sit a year if VT denied a release.

I didn't think he'd take the ISU job either, but Spooner said almost the same thing as you a while back. Turns out Spooner was right (again).

I'll admit I have not been a fan of the way brands has handled competing against Virginia Tech in this new duals format but this specific line has me inclined to not really side with them should Dresser Anounce he's taking the ISU job tomorrow

"Should Pollard extend an offer and Dresser accept, the veteran coach would step down immediately and Virginia Tech would be in a position to name an interim head coach, with associate head coach Tony Robie the most likely candidate"

There's almost less than a month left in the season and with VT having a shot at winning another ACC title and a shot at taking home another team trophy I can't understand why you wouldn't allow him to finish out the season with his team. That just comes off as petty to me
