I had actually thought about making a post about the freshman and how I've been very pleased with him.

I put off doing so, but since someone else thought it was appropriate to bash him, I thought I'd go ahead and make one.

I agree. My early read is it looks like he has the potential to be a very good Place Kicker. I'm betting he becomes very consistent from inside 45 yds...yet has a big enough leg to hit from 55. I like that!

Yeah who knows. That was so crazy how that ISU game ended. Doesn't even look like Iowa has a shot, then the 2 defensive penalties and one pass and it's FG time. Tough kick for Blom or any kicker.

Stevens has been great, no doubt. But his miss against Illinois was huge at end of first half. Game was tied 6-6 at the time and the 45-yard miss would have put Iowa up 9-6 in a game Hawks lose 9-6.

Really not the fault of either Blom or Stevens that Iowa loses those games. If the offense does anything positive in either game, the misses are a non-factor. If Iowa is going to win more games this year, it's likely Stevens is going to have to make a kick that determines winning or losing.

He keeps this up, he probably has a nice professional career to look forward to, as well.

Drew Stevens, Tory Taylor, and Drew Miller (the punter from Mediapolis) are all great examples that learning to kick the ball at a young age is not a bad idea.

His dad played at ISU. Drew was trained by same trainer as Duncan.
