Drew Thelwell appreciation thread

I thought that's why everyone got a covid year because that season didn't count against eligibility?

I thought you had to have missed the majority of a season due to injury to get a 6th? That was the case for Jbo Connor and Patrick.
I think in this case, if you consider 20-21 as not counting toward anything eligibility-wise, then Thelwell graduated from Morehead State in 3 seasons. That would give him 2 years of eligibility after the grad transfer. So it’s not really about getting a covid year, but rather the grad transfer rules. Again, just my educated guess.

He brings defense and the ability to drive the ball, which the team needs. In addition, I love his enthusiasm. He is a great ambassador for mens basketball- everytime I see him exhort the crowd, I wish I could be at the game to support him.
And finish at the rim, unlike our 2nd guard.

Assume he has used Covid year?

All reports have been that this is his last year of eligibility.

This is his 5th year in college.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. Best set of guards in the Fran era and it's not even close. Pair these guys with Garza or the Murrays and this is easily an Elite 8 kind of team. Guards were always the problem until this year.

The thing I love about Brock is that A LOT of people have said negative things about him; he's too short; he's not strong enough; he's this; he's that.

Brock has a couple bags of chips on his shoulders, as a result, and is proving everyone wrong one day at a time.

I gotta think he will be jacked for the ILLini game... ;)

Only playing in 16 games in his first season is probably the angle they are going for here, if there was an injury.

Unlikely to work but nothing to lose by trying.

One of the few bright spots last night. He comes up with some steals, has the quickness to blow past some defenders, and even had the hot hand from deep last night. I like the guy. Need more like him.

Drew Thelwell on where he is emotionally entering the final stretch of his college career:

"I’m going to give everything I got for those guys in that locker room. I told them at Illinois, whatever I got left in these legs, it’s all to you. I don’t care about whatever noise is going (on) outside this team. I’m giving whatever I got to them.”
