An 87-year-old man who was taking his driving exam in order to renew his license crashed his car into the driver's license facility in Deerfield, officials said.

No one was injured, police said.

"It happened around lunch time," said Secretary of State spokesman Dave Druker. "There is some damage to the building, but they'll have it repaired immediately."

Druker said it appears the man, who was in the car with an examiner, stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, striking a post and several signs. It appears the examiner helped steer the vehicle away from the building, according to Druker.

Deerfield police said the accident was investigated as a property damage incident. No tickets were issued.

The driver's license facility, located in a strip mall at 405 Lake Cook Rd., remained open following the accident.

My wife and I stopped for some lunch Sunday. Right after we walked into the building, there was a loud boom and the building shook a little. We turned around and looked and saw where a car with a couple of women in their 80's had jumped the curb and hit the building right where we had just been. They weren't hurt - the airbags didn't even deploy - but if we had been 15 seconds later we would have been walking right where they hit.

Lunch was good.

This sorta happened in Florida a while back with an old woman. She actually drove into the building as she parked to renew her license. Sadly, they still renewed it for her.
