ESPN analyst Todd McShay: "I'm most looking forward to see which quarterbacks rise to the challenge this year. We're coming off an historic draft class of QBs, with five being drafted in the first round, including four in the top 10. So which QBs are going to step up in 2018? Will it be Missouri's strong-armed triggerman Drew Lock? Or Oregon's raw talent Justin Herbert? Or Iowa's underrated quarterback Nate Stanley? Or will some of the young guns -- like Tua Tagovailoa [Alabama], Trevor Lawrence [Clemson], Jake Fromm-Justin Fields [Georgia], etc. -- steal the spotlight?"

He was the sideline reporter for the OSU game, he has seen him first hand. Stanley looks the part especially in that game.

One of McShay's first reports was "I can't even hear myself think down here, it's so loud!" . God I love that game.

Stanley has a very good chance to make the NFL. At some point, his windup/delivery is going to be scrutinized. I know it sounds trivial but it could be the difference between being drafted on day one or day two.

If he progresses and desires to play in the NFL he should go. There will be some team that will pick him up regardless of his arm action. Every year the guys at the top swing and miss just like college coaches do in recruiting.
There is no way to know for sure how the dynamics of life are going to work for any individual . Its an investment and therefore exposes one to failures regardless of how they come about.

I agree with everything you said. As I stated earlier, I expect him to get his shot in the NFL. I will be surprised but not shocked if he comes out early.

Signs are pointing toward Stan taking a big step forward this season. He'll be very good if the line holds up and the wr group can improve their performance. I'm hoping there is more than just hype surrounding his future. I forget which teammate said things should be fun with Stan at the helm this year.

Lets not forget that McShay predicted Mitch Liedner was going to be a 1st rounder.
Yes but Stanley’s passing stats eclipse leinders. But Mitch could run the football.. an area that Stanley will have to improve, mobile quarterbacks are preferred, nobody wants the big statues anymore.. they want big arm big body mobile quarterbacks.. (cam newton)

Really? So how many teams would turn down a shot at the next Big Ben? Look around the league at some of the stiffs playing or in back up roles right now.

We're going to disagree on that one.

Big Ben when he first enter the league was mobile then you think heck I think his third year he ran for 200 and some yards, they didn’t design plays for him to run but if need be he once had the ability to do so..

This is the 90s and early 2000s anymore, players like newton, Watson, turbisky so who they are wanting, yeah you’ll have your goffs Wentz and Carr’s who have great arms, but a cam newton is far more valuable and you all know it

Wentz up until his injury was arguably the best mobile QB in the league and best QB period.

All that running takes a toll on QB's in the league. Watson, injured first year, out. RGIII, constantly on the shelf. Even Superman himself took a beating the last couple of years.

He doesn't need to be a "running qb", BUT he does need to see when a defense is willing to give his feet a first down. Especially when its 3rd down. Thankfully he DID improve throughout the year....so hopefully he continues to.

he just needs to be mobile enough to get a good look and get the ball away. Don't know if you can teach that one instinctual step up or shoulder dip, but it would go a long ways toward improving his game.

Iowa needs a mobile QB to get to the next level. With the exception of Stanzi, this has seemed the usual case. (*think running Beathard as opposed to hobbled Beathard.) Stanley hasn't shown he's that type of player, so he's going to need some big help from his receivers.

I agree totally, and think that we'll see improvement from Stanley in recognition this season. I was simply commenting on Roy's comment that the league has no place for QB's who aren't overly mobile. I think the league is a pretty mixed bag, and there is still room for guys who can stand toughin the pocket and spin it.......

I listen to the NFL SIRIUS channel a lot. Come to realize that Gil Brandt knows more about personnel than anyone I've ever heard.

Bring that up because he said a couple of weeks ago on air that Kirk Ferentz has a sleeper star at QB on the roster. He listed about ten other guys that I didn't know as potential QB sleepers as well.
