Painful to watch the highlights. Either you are coaching it or allowing it to happen. Iowa deeply flawed (per usual) defensively. B1G refs tried to help Iowa at times (phantom calls).

11:53 - No one getting back on defense. EIU lay-up.

12:27 - PMac closeout with hands down. Hand down, man down - EIU 3.

12:37 - Tony Perkins TO - EIU lay-up

12:52 - Backdoor cut on Ulis - EIU dunk

13:37 - Tony Perkins goes under the ballscreen - EIU jumper.

13:48 - Rebraca flop. Gets two free throws.

14:09 - Ulis late on the catch . No high hand on the closeout. Was overhelping on the high post. Sandfort had the high post defended.

14:17 - Phantom foul call on Sandfort's 3 attempt.

14:50 - Sandfort beaten baseline, Rebraca leaves his man to help - alley-oop dunk EIU.

15:29 - Zone lob play vs. 2-3 zone that 90% of coaches in the country run (regardless of level - a popular high school zone set for the lob) - EIU alley-oop dunk.

17:45 - Four Iowa guys offensive rebounding. One Iowa guy watching at the three-point line. Who is back on defense? Foul on the lay-up. EIU shooting two.

18:30 - High EIU ballscreen. Rebraca needs to be in drop coverage. Goes to double team the ball, gets above the ball. Ulis gets blown by for the lay-up.

18:42 - Phantom call on PMac's and 1.

19:13 - Iowa in a full court press: give up a lay-up.

19:43 - Bowen helping off his man when he doesn't need to. #25 EIU hits a 3.

20:13 - Rebraca goes to double team the pick-n-roll in a soft hedge. Leaves his roll man wide open. No help on the roll by Ulis. EIU gets fouled on the dunk.

20:26 - One guy back on D. EIU dunk.

Hawks were down 80-67 with 3:25 left.

24:00 - No one back on D. PMac tries to get back after taking the shot. EIU dunk.

Didn’t get to watch the game that closely. I took these thoughts away from the highlights:
1. Iowa got a friendly whistle
2. Half court defense was better than I expected for iowa. Some mishaps and lazy plays but it wasn’t awful or atrocious.
3. Our transition defense was atrocious. Maybe the half court defense didn’t look so bad because the last fifteen minutes of the second half seemed like it was transition buckets for EIU after turnovers or Iowa missed shots. After it happened a couple times there should have been adjustments.

Somedays you just have a bad game but after 13 years worth of this, you would think the fan base would wake up some. I guess as long has he wins just enough to keep the sheep happy. People can complain about the FB program but at least Kirk has some BIG10 titles and top 10 finishes to back it up. Fran has nada and we continue with the status quo.

Iowa basketball had a top 10 finish two years ago. The last top 10 finish in football was 2015.

Of course we’re comparing a sport where 25% of Iowa’s total expenses go to (football) vs basketball which sees just about 6% of the total expenses. Seems reasonable to compare.

A BTT championship last year. A top 10 finish the season before and somehow that’s status quo for our fan base. That or we’re all just sleeping.

Fran getting a team highly rank doesn't surprise me....nor does an early exit from the only tournament that anyone cares about...regardless of expectations.
