Effects of Kneeling

you are kidding right ?

Absolutely not. Look at the data. We're hotspot chasing via mass testing.

The total deaths last week were the lowest since March. Hospitalizations nationally are descending rapidly. Read the data, not CNN panic porn.

The average age of positive cases in Florida is half of what it was two months ago. This is a product of mass testing younger, asymptomatic younger population.

let them kneel, I won't. its their choice

You are wrong. When they are on that field they are under the direction of the University and the athletic department. As a matter of fact while you are a student you are under the rules of the student handbook while you are in school and when you arent.

But perhaps necessary.

My parents lived through the '60s. Most people not killed by the KKK, drug overdose, or Vietnam survived it just fine.

College athletes kneeling during the national anthem, which most fans are too drunk to properly sing along to anyway, will not be the end of Western Civilization or the complete undoing of Judeo-Christian values in America.

If older people or "Trumpers" can't understand that, then that's not anyone's problem but their own. There are plenty of people who have served in the military who are okay with 1st Amendment expressions.

There are plenty of non -Trumpers that think kneeling is horsesh#t. Don't forget that.

Kapernick, on at least one occasion, wore socks depicting cops as pigs. To me, using an NFL football game to demonstrate that type of disrespect toward law enforcement is inappropriate.
How about law enforcement disrespecting human rights? Choking and shooting black men in the back. There is corruption in law enforcement that should not go unnoticed. If that means protesting against it, then so be it.

Many people have said it but it deserves repeating: who said we needed to stand in the first place? Like who made that rule? Your kindergarten teacher. A military veteran told Kaepernick to do it as a RESPECTFUL sign of protest.

And besides, taking a knee is a greater sign of respect to the flag people hold so holy that they can’t even take off their hat or get off their phone to salute. Anyone who’s butt hurt over this kneeling issue is probably upside down on many issues.

Should't you be a Cal fan?
All public schools are based on socializing the cost and responsibility to educate the population. Perhaps you should become a fan of some private school if you don’t want to support Marxism.

You finally decided to make a cogent argument, now use those same thinking skills to try and explain why kneeling for the anthem isn't showing disrespect to people of all races, ages, religions and political persuasions. Because if you choose to actually think, you will realize that kneeling for the anthem isn't just about BLM. If your father said something that you didn't agree with, do you say I'm sorry I don't agree, or do you say "you're dead to me" Kneeling for the flag is in essence saying the county is dead to me.

Many others have posted reasons why they don’t think it’s disrespectful. Obviously those posts haven’t swayed you, so I’ll go another way. Kneeling is a protest. It’s supposed to agitate you. It’s supposed to make you feel unsettled. And it’s supposed to rub it in your face that this country has a problem.

But it’s also an act of faith in America. The protesters believe that once good people realize the problem, they will demand a solution even if they didn’t enjoy having their face rubbed in it. That’s America baby. That’s a nation that is alive and healthy and something to be proud of.

Now get an avatar.

Kneeling IS a protest...as you say...and its MEANT to be disrespectful.

The "protestors" are angry and are demanding everyone agree to all of the things THEY believe need to be done to address the racism problems in this country. They are asserting that they get to define the scope and depth of the problem, direct the solution, and that the rest of us should just shut up and listen...and you should especially shut up if you are white. Well, that's a racist position...but worse...its an anti-democratic position. Change in THIS country is not supposed to come from intimidation, burning down cities, killing policemen, declaring crime filled autonomous zones (CHOP), and terrorizing citizens...its supposed to come through open debate and respect for the opinions of those with whom you disagree.

The Left seems to have forgotten that this is a Republic, and violence is not a part of how we resolve our differences. If it continues to BE a part of it, than the Republic will fall...because governance of and by the people can ONLY work when peaceful resolution of differences is a part of the social compact amongst citizens.

And that's not even getting into the fact that Marxist and Terrorist groups have pushed their way into these protests and are warping that message even further. No doubt, most protestors see a problem with race in America and sincerely want to fix it...but if you mix Marxists (BLM) and terrorists (Antifa) into this mix than the conversation ends abruptly. Just as its encumbent on conservatives to shut down and lock out idiots like white supremacists, it is equally incumbent on the Left to shut out these Marxist and Terrorist groups in their midst. When that is done, the sane people can sit down using democratic means and fix the very real problems we have with racism in this country. But real change cannot happen whilst cities are burning and people are being murdered in the streets by these groups.

Mesa, why are so so fearful? Marxists and terrorists? Cities burning? BTW, what does Marxism mean anyway? Capitalism has left many of the protesters behind and even more amazing, most of the current president’s supporters.

Why am I fearful of cities burning? Is that a serious question? The answer to your question is that I prefer to live in a Republic that resolves its problems through debate and civil discourse...not through the burning of businesses, general rioting, and the murder of fellow citizens. My fear is for the safety and lives of my children, who...along with every child in the country...are endangered by rioting and violence.

I'm fearful of the rise of Marxism because I know my history...countless millions killed at the hands of Marxist ideology throughout the 20th century, and still ongoing in places like China. Even Nazism couldn't rival the death and slaughter wrought by Marxism around the globe. Further, the suppression of freedom by Marxist ideology is its primary quality when in power...Socialism and Communism must never be tolerated in a free society...because Marxism and freedom cannot and do not coexist.

Not going to give you a dictionary reading of the definition of Marxism. What I will give you are the plentiful examples of its heinous application throughout the past 100+ years...feel free to read and quote from Marx as you see fit.

My grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from a communist country. Do not try and lecture me on the difference between a capitalist country and a Marxist one. No system is perfect but Maxism is evil. My grandparents told me why and why they came here. How many South Koreans are begging to go North?

I hear so many of you chastising the BLM movement as rooted in Marxism. There are many forms of Marxism, as a few posters have so eloquently stated, enlighten yourselves. Yes, the women who began the movement has been trained in elements of this, but your deflection of the movement itself by comparing it to MarxIt’s regimes is just ignorance on your part. All they’re demanding is your racist stances/undertones toward blacks will be tolerated no more. Sorry, but you better get used to it as this election in November will end this ugly four years where your fears were put to the forefront by a racist president. Don’t be fearful of the blacks, they just want to be treated equally. Why is this so difficult for you accept?

I support the team kneeling, and will still attend games with my friends and my daughter.

But I think I've probably attended the last game with my parents. They're older. They either won't go or if they go they will be yelling at the players (or people around them) to stand for the flag. Both are Trumpers.

My grandfather fought in WWI, and I have other family in the military. There's just a whole generation out there that equates "saluting the flag" with "saluting the troops" and doesn't understand this kneeling style protest or doesn't have enough of a "you do you" attitude to leave it be.

They'd probably make a scene and end up on a Twitter video yelling and acting wild. Anyone else have people like this in their family, or just me?

Don't stand for the anthem? Then scholarship should be revoked. The lack of respect for our flag and institutions is shameful. Mob mentality is going on in America with thugs tearing down statues

You really don’t understand what is going on? What institutions? The institution of racism? How’d your rally turn out out last night? Get used to it buddy, the revolution is here, so jump on and be a part of the changes that will truly “make this country great again.”

I actually feel sorry for you if you believe any of this.

First, as a Poly Sci guy I'm familiar with all the shades of Marxism...all are evil and utterly disfunctional and incompatible with human freedom. Second, no one is comparing BLM to "regimes", rather we're noting that BLM's deeply held Marxist bent makes it anti-democratic, anti-capitalist, and anti-free speech...among other negative qualities. Third, I have no racist stances or undertones...though I get the impression you may have a few...based on your dismissive tone.

Finally, I'm fearful of no man/woman based on their skin color...only peawits like yourself consider skin color to be someone's defining trait. I'll stick with MLK's axiom and judge folks by the content of their character...and leave the "defining people by race" to you. As for being treated equally, that's what everyone on this board wants...the argument is about how to reduce racism and make society more balanced and fair for ALL people. You don't get to dictate that policy any more than I do.

And spare me the "you better get used to it" and "quit being afraid" garbage...these are weak tropes that come from people who like to regurgitate Left wing platitudes. You may be driven by fear, I chose reason and information when it comes to policy choices.

And the veiled threat of "better get used to it" is precisely what makes people refuse to move an inch in your direction...which is a problem considering the ONLY way forward is reasoned compromise. YOU do not get to dictate anything to anyone. As for the next election, be cocky if you wish and think its in the bag....but you'd be wiser to hold off on the celebration dance until the votes are counted. Don't want to look like Hillary partisans crying and wailing in shock that they could possibly lose an election now do you?

You've been drinking the far-left kool-aid. Twenty unarmed Blacks were killed by law enforcement in 2019. Yep 20. That's less than are killed via Black on Black crime in Chicago on the weekends.

We’re getting closer Mesa. Poorly applied policing is what I consider the “tough on crime thing.” We’re arresting people for way to many minor offenses, especially again poor people. Once you get a strike in our criminal justice system it becomes very hard for you. Minor traffic stops and ticketing for this and that in the poor community where people can’t pay the tickets or even afford to pay to fix the car. I’m not saying being less tough on real crime, I’m saying be less tough on on when you have the judgement to make a difference.

If someone can’t afford to pay for a ticket, they should probably just follow the law and it wouldn’t be an issue.

Nope, players should be given the choice to do what they want without being criticized. A player can be in favor of standing for the anthem and be against racism.

I never meant they should be forced to, but there is no I in team. I hope they would all come together, at least one time.

Mesa - after reading many of your posts this past week, I feel you are no different than many others, small narrow, and misguided. I know of no one who served in the military that needed to brag about the fact and explain to others “I fought for your freedom to blah, blah, blah. The flag is sacred, blah, blah, blah. Insecure and small. Your narrow view of the kneeling of Kaepernick and others shows your narrowness. The statement of Soros funding some group called antifa, completely misguided and actually laughable. I agree with many others, the militarization of our pastimes has gotten out of hand. You? Of course not. Your ignorance of the peaceful demonstrations by MLK, how the government/military squashed them with violence and how current blacks feel like it got them nowhere make me question your ability to understand the current situation. The deep seeded racism on this board propels me to call it out, no more standing on the sidelines. BTW, I’ve never felt the need to let others I have a masters degree, does that empower you?Feel free to spend time responding, but it’s all I need to know about you.

Just because you disagree with his view points doesnt mean he is wrong and youre right. You might want to do some self reflection on calling anyone misguided.

You see what you want to see when you look at this board. I see a bunch of people here with valid concerns about rioting and bloodshed in the streets...and about cancel culture. Concerns you can't to dismiss and to belittle them for having. These same folks believe everyone should be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin as you seem to believe. As for ignorance, you clearly have less knowledge of MLK's life and peaceful protest courage than most on this board.

As for my service, the topic was brought up about how people in the service and veterans feel about kneeling to the flag...and I commented as a Veteran because that status was relevant to the discussion. On a related note, I'd venture that I know many more Vets than you do, and have a FAR better feel for how most perceive kneeling before the flag. The Vets I know would say you have a right to do it, but your ungrateful shit for doing so.

You are clearly ill informed on the history of civil rights...though you display a modicum of professorial indoctrination in your tone and in the lack of contextual understanding in your arguments...you come across as arrogant, clearly believing that you perceive the situation more clearly than others on the board. Clearly, you are blinded by ideology...to the point where everything around you is perceived through the thick lens of confirmation bias. BTW, The MA discussion was fitted into a discussion of history and the experience I and others have in the study thereof...you can perceive that discussion any way you want.

So MLK and Gandhi slept through history class as per you...as they were ADAMANTLY determined that ONLY peaceful protest was acceptable...even in the face of violence from authorities...and both men moved mountains and advance their causes in incredible fashion. Its peaceful protest that takes courage and resolve, any hooligan can riot in the streets and tear down statues...but vandalism doesn't change hearts and minds.

Here's a recent excerpt/quote from Muhammad Ali's son on the matter of peaceful protest vs the violent mess of rioting we've seen so much of:

The legendary boxer and activist stood up against racism throughout his life, but Muhammad Ali Jr. says his dad would have been sickened by how the protests have turned to violence and looting after the death of George Floyd.

“Don’t bust up s–t, don’t trash the place,” he told The Post. “You can peacefully protest.

‘‘My father would have said, ‘They ain’t nothing but devils.’ My father said, ‘all lives matter.’ I don’t think he’d agree.

Of the BLM movement, Ali Jr., a Muslim like his father, said: “I think it’s racist.”
https://nypost.com/2020/06/20/muhammad-alis-son-says-he-wouldve-hated-black-lives-matters/

But wait, I guess he just doesn't get it...or perhaps you think he's a racist. How dare he disagree with your version of things, right?
