Not quick enough to play D. Once he came in Purdue went of for 4 threes in row. It didn't help that Uthoff threw up several ill advised shots.

Was at a bar in San Diego but left at half time. Experience has taught me that poor play can equate to a large bar bill, so we left.

Was hoping for better.

Well, you missed a pretty good second half. Go back to that bar and ring up the bill in celebration!

Better catch the replay. 2nd half worth it.

When will basketball fans raise their intelligence level and realize that this game can change in 5 or ten minutes, or a whole half! And the 2nd half is all you should ever watch! Or just relax and see if the worm doesn't turn.
Or watch the first half only but maybe keep trap shut! Ha

Only missed the best second half comeback of the Fran era. Hell, for a long, long time.

I think it was at Illinois Iowa came back from 23 down if my memory is good. I think Davis' first year.

That's the best one I remember during my lifetime. And this rates right with it.

Gunner...had a backfire. I watched every minute...what a great fight, to the death.

Ellingson must decrease - Baer must increase.

That game has to be an instant classic...

Glad I recorded it at home. Just found out when my wife checked the score on her phone.

Glad they won, came back to the room and finished my bottle of Crown. Early flight in the AM, will sleep better knowing they won.

I saw a stat that teams were something like 3 wins, 400 losses this year down 19 or more points at half. Sounds kind of intelligent to be pessimistic at that point.

I'd like to see Ellingson pull the trigger more often. E and Jok are the best pure shooters on the team IMO.
Ellinson is not a better pure shooter than Utoff. I like his game, but I'd like to see Baer be the first man off the bench if he isn't going to start.

Ellingson will be interesting in his development. He was overmatched today and didn't have the experience to cope. He generally makes smart decisions and I think that's why he doesn't pull the 3 trigger that often. He's not comfortably open for him and so knows it's not a good shot currently. With experience, I think he could find his comfort zone.

I recall being down 20+ at Kansas and then McCausland went nuts from 3.

Don't write Brady off. He's a red shirt freshman 2 games into the conf. season. He may not star for the Hawks, but he's got plenty to contribute.

Think of where Dom was last year defensively. Defensively he's light years ahead of Jok as a frosh. Give the guy time. He has the potential to score in bunches which is rare off the bench. We're pretty lucky to have Nick and Dom on the bench, but I have a feeling we'll be glad to have Brady next year.

We need guards for next year. We need at least 2 athletic guards. If Moss can play guard then we need 2 open scholly's so we can give Baer one and a transfer point guard one.

Experience goes a long way. Aaron White was deemed "too slow" by many (myself included) to ever even be a decent defender, but by his senior year, he made up for it by being able to anticipate, leading to many steals or prevent his man from getting the ball. I personally don't even think Ellingson is that slow, just a bit confused at times. He'll get better. The fact that he's getting minutes as a freshman (RS) shows that Fran has a lot of faith in him.

Enjoy this season because with guys like Ellingson taking over next year...?? Yikes. He's been awful.

BE is too slow. Runs around in circles as the player for Iowa did last three years.

Hustles. But, kid named Baer is my choice.
Hustles, shoots well, boards. Scholly for Baer.

well said...totally unfair to write BE off considering we just played (and beat) #1 MichSt & #14 Purdue..not "every" redshirt freshman is going to take off.. What I didn't like was Brady passing up a run out 3pointer..instead passing into Uhl ankles...

Don't mean to throw Ellingson under bus but he has MILES to go.

I'm sure Fran has it covered. The Next season or two may be a step back before they the McCaffery boy, JW, and this years recruiting bigs get a season under their belt.

in the meantime lets just enjoy this team.

It was his first Big Ten road game. Ellingson is not going to be a star, but he is a good player. He'll help Iowa at times this year for what he does, which is take care of the basketball and shoot it well.

its OK...not sure I would say miles .. but certainly has some work to do..good news is we have a coach that knows how to get him going..its all about experience and gaining confidence. I thought BE against MichSt & Purdue looked like a redshirt freshman...oh wait he is.

Baer is not the norm...Baer is not normal...that's a good thing.

Words to live by. The in-game commentary on this board was the height of hilarity. Surprised that several posters aren't admitting to downing a heaping plateful of crow today.

He does remind me a bit of Kent McCausland...which isn't a bad thing in case you millenials are wondering

I think a lot of you folks who have negative feelings about Brady probably did not see the Hawks play some of those early games that were not on TV. Brady looked pretty good in the earlier games against weaker opponents. But he has struggled against B1G elite competition. He will get his legs. Don't give up on him. He is solid. He will learn. To get a bench you have to play your bench. Trust Fran he clearly knows what he is doing.

I have concerns about Brady but I really trust Fran after what I have seen over the years. If he likes someone there's usually a reason.

What I noticed against MSU sitting in the stands that made me worry was what appeared to be lack of foot speed/agility when working off the ball. After seeing Gatens, Olegsby, Marble, Jok, etc. work off screens under Fran, BE was noticbly slow and not athletic against the kind of athletes you see (MSU) in the B1G, That could be a function of the game has not slowed down for him yet and he's thinking too much? My take is he needs to work tremendously hard on his physical condition and on improving his agility.

He seems to have a nice shooting stroke the few times he has shot it so that's positive. He could really improve but needs to put in a lot of work. Nothing like on the court experience to show a player his strengths and weaknesses.

BE seems to struggle with the grabbing and pushing style of play you see in the B!G. Didn't see it so much yesterday but Sparty was really grabbing and holding Brady. I think he's quick enough but strength is really a problem. Also, he's supposed to be a shooter so he needs to shoot when he's open. Knock down a couple treys and those cuts might become a little sharper.

I'd have that kid, and all of my "shooting guards" watching film of John Havlicek. It might be 40-50 years old but the constant motion and running through multiple picks per possession are the text book of a guy working without the ball.

False. Dumb comment.
He had 1 bad pass; but really, if Uhl had made the catch it would have been a great pass.

Rewatch the game. He was fine outside of that 1 play, and he has been fine all season long.

I would think an athletic defender with no shot would be just as good as BE in Big Ten play. Hutton and Moss must be really behind if they can't beat out Brady//Fleming.
