Emergency responders are searching the Cedar River near Palisades Kepler State Park for an 11-year-old, identified Thursday by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office as Zyah Thomas.

Crews were called to the state park Wednesday afternoon when Thomas reportedly went into the water and began to struggle, according to a new release.

In a tweet Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office identified Thomas and called the incident a drowning.

Tragic. Seems like every year someone drowns in the Cedar. When will people realize it is not a safe swimming river? I had a cousin down in it 20 years ago
