You don't think the guys in that locker room hear the negativity?

You don't think the chances of them playing optimally are better without all the negative stress in the environment?

Why spread and multiply negativity?

Both Fran and Payton alluded to the scrutiny (Fran was holding back tears, for those that missed it).

Support these Hawks!

This isnt pee wee ball. Every college athlete deals with this stuff. Just another long line of excuses why Fran has put a crap product on the floor

It would be great if Fran could find it in himself to do something about it. That's the battle he's facing, not the fans.

No surprise that the assholes are the only responses to your post....Go Hawks....screw the fair weather fans ...

It's one thing for a coach to lose his team. It's an entirely different scenario when a coach loses his fanbase. Fans will tolerate just so much, and will turn on the coaching staff in a harsh way. Ask the Sacramento Kings fans.

Dealing with fan reaction goes with the job. Fans want results. Of course he feels emotion, he's human after all. However, take that emotion and fan adversity, and do something with it. Something positive.
Or prevent the dynamic from the fans' end by not acting like 5 year olds

This is a losing crusade buddy.

I don't know if you are just pretending to not understand the sports fan dynamic in America or if this just makes you feel superior but it's pointless.

It's pretty much universal, team does poorly fans complain. That's how it is and how it will always be.

Want to get fan support and reduce/eliminate criticism? How about producing good results, especially consistently. That will silence the criticism in most cases.
Of course.

And what about times of struggle? How to get fan support then?

Fans don't have the choice to be supportive or at least quiet?

Ans there should be scrutiny. I think the effort has been there the last few games to at least see how things play out down the stretch. 3 more wins, and he's coming back next year for sure. 2 wins and I think it depends on how we looked in the losses.

As much as it sucks to hope for Ls it is for the betterment of the future of the program. We need to lose and get embarrassed a couple of times unfortunately. Hopefully give Beth no choice

If you go back in time, on these threads, you'll find that some posters who were highly critical of Fran who actually relented and gave him more time and patience. I was one of them. But this has gone on for too long now.
What's that have to do with supporting this team?

No doubt that Fran cares about his players, but he has not been a very good coach this year. Great win tonight, with key players out. Too bad it won't be more meaningful, although it does put Iowa in a good position to be in the BTT, not much of a goal.

He is, he has his guys playing hard in difficult circumstances.
Now, do it consistently, producing good results. You've been on here a long time. What do the fans on here talk about every year? They reminisce about Lute Olsen, Tom Davis, and others in the distant past making it to a Sweet Sixteen, a Final Four. Now, what reflection do they have concerning Fran? They talk about the heartbreaking losses and disappointments in post-season play. BTT's are nice, but the real meat is in the NCAA's.

Obviously we have had a disappointing season with more injuries than I remember in a long time time. Yet, Fran still has the guys battling which says a lot about them. They deserve better fan support than they are getting.
