This thread needs to be retitled. This is not just about one governor, but this is a national coordinated effort.

There simply are no words for this kind of thing other than outright shameless evil. It reminds me of the kind of propaganda that happened in the run up to the genocide in Yugoslavia, or Rwanda. Or Germany. This kind of thing prepares people to commit Heinous and even genocidal acts. That this is somehow normalized by almost half of this country is unspeakable. And I’m sure there are people on this forum who love the fact that the Libs are upset or whatever despicable cowardly thing used to justify this kind of outright fascism.

Doesn't Russia have an equivalent of a ministry of truth?

Keep using that word fascist though bro.

That guy is an idiot.
"Ministry of Truth" is a fictional entity from 1984 and the obvious parallels to the Soviet Union in 1984 are based on Orwell's experience with Soviets from fighting more or less on the same side as them during the Spanish Civil War against Franco and the fascists. Orwell did not invent lying, propaganda, duplicity, or any economic isms. I've heard Hitchens say, and it made sense tome, that Orwell took for granted that anyone would recognize and oppose fascism given when the novel was written and published. The English speaking world had plenty of socialists (such as Orwell himself) before Cold War political purges. That any state has something like a "Ministry of Truth" is not an indication on whether they are or are not a fascist state. Totalitarianism and fascism are compatible.

I wish it would have ended there.

Calling what they tried to do a "Ministry of Truth" is pretty dumb. You should read 1984. And then not post or talk to anyone who isn't obligated to tolerate you in their daily lives for about 2 months because that's how long it takes to stop be annoying after you read Orwell for the first time.

Fwiw, I have read 1984 twice. Once in like 8th grade and once in undergrad to try to actually understand it.

The name is silly, attempting to create the agency itself was ****ing stupid.

There is a MAGAt running where I live. Her slogan is ‘Freedom over fear’. These brainwashed freaks can’t even figure out if fear is a good thing or bad thing. Hypocrites. What a sad state of the Republican Party.

Is anyone else on HROT old enough to remember when the GOP would have run a guy out of their party for this? Then they went from grab 'em by the pussy, to let's just tie them up and abuse them.
Makes good 'ole Roy Moore stalking high school cheerleaders and bird-dogging young teenage girls at the mall seem downright honorable in comparison.

Actually it wasn’t the main inspiration.

What most terrified orwell was political propaganda, and especially political propaganda run by the British foreign office where he did work early in his career and wrote about it in his book Burmese Days. He saw the inner workings of the bureaucracy of the British foreign office and how they terrorized and killed in order to keep power. He also saw how it worked in India. Brutal. India before the British arrived was responsible for 25% of global GDP, and so the BRITs went in there and destroyed all of that industry so that they could dominate the global textile market, as well as other industries. The amount of death and misery caused by the British empire on their colonies is almost incalculable.

And in the Spanish Civil War he was most terrified by the propaganda at home in Great Britain.

Orwell would be terrified at the so-called “alternative facts“ propagated by the MAGAsphere and unthinkingly repeated even here on these illustrious forums.

In his work George Orwell: My Country Right or Left, 1940-1943, Orwell described how much this frightened him.

“...I saw newspaper reports which did not bear any relation to the facts, not even the relationship which is implied in an ordinary lie. I saw great battles reported where there had been no fighting, and complete silence where hundreds of men had been killed. I saw troops who had fought bravely denounced as cowards and traitors, and others who had never seen a shot fired hailed as the heroes of imaginary victories; and I saw newspapers in London retailing these lies and eager intellectuals building emotional superstructures over events that had never happened.”

Joni Ernst keeps talking about all the successes that she has had in the Senate protecting women in the military, and strengthening federal laws designed to protect women.
Watch her welcome Greitens into the Senate with open arms.

If we keep repeating it maybe they will think it's true.
Sorry, I put you on ignore long ago and don't see your posts normally.

Which part are you referring to? That there are no cons in the thread? If that's the case and you self-identify I would apologize, however after reading your contributions I don't see where you did anything other than take pot-shots at other posters. Want to comment on the content?

It's amazing how oblivious to information you can become when you censor yourself.

Start with post 15.

Just imagine how loudly the crying on Fox News and this board would be if a Democrat produced a similar type of ad. It would be 72 hour no commercials reporting at least.
