MLB and the NHL aren't the same.ESPN will pretend MLB does not exist like they pretended the NHL didn't exist until they got the NHL contract back.
For the NHL, taking less money to be on ESPN and especially ESPN+ has been a boon for the sport's visibility. Actually worth it to take less for more promotion.
Yes, destitute. And when the GOTW is the Cubs vs <insert team> but I can't watch because it is blacked out in your area, that ain't a poor problem, that's an MLB problem.Poor?

I thought you meant you couldn't get them at all.Yes, destitute. And when the GOTW is the Cubs vs <insert team> but I can't watch because it is blacked out in your area, that ain't a poor problem, that's an MLB problem.
MLB’s blackout restrictions are a crime against humanity. So shortsighted and nonsensical. The NHL's ratings have tanked this year
MLB needs to get over itself and get rid of the blackout restrictions and put everything through mlb.tv. Not everything minus the game on apple, the 10am game on nbc, the games on fox, etc. You can still have them there but make everything available to the consumer in one spot without blackout restrictions.

Pretty good way to kill the sport long term.MLB’s blackout restrictions are a crime against humanity. So shortsighted and nonsensical.
once again, the power of distribution in the american economic model shows itself.ESPN will pretend MLB does not exist like they pretended the NHL didn't exist until they got the NHL contract back.

First of all, I won't subscribe to Marquise just so I can watch Cubs/baseball although there is some content I do like. Second, MLB and the way their games are broadcast, or rather, not broadcast in regard to regional blackouts is about the dumbest damn thing to come down the pike since bags of hammers were invented. Way to grow your fan base. Lastly, I can only see MLB benefitting from their divorce from ESPN. I realize streaming is probably going to be the wave, but as noted ^^^ maybe they'll get smart and farm contracts out to networks, show regional games of importance and not every damn Yankee or Dodger game and get new/former fans engaged.I thought you meant you couldn't get them at all.
How do you see this shaking out? The owners always step on their own dicks, or, step on each other's in order to spite each other.
You can always get DirecTV.First of all, I won't subscribe to Marquise just so I can watch Cubs/baseball although there is some content I do like. All that said, longwinded as it is, if I am truly interested in a Cubs/baseball game, I can turn on the radio.
Our bar had Direct, we had their baseball package, in a sports bar. Guess what was blacked out? Yes, midwest regional games. We dropped that and then Marquise came along and was part of Directs package so that was good. You can always get DirecTV.
Because this is HBOT, I am compelled to point out that you misspelled marquis, which is a male member of the nobility, a step below a duke. A marquess is the female equivalent.First of all, I won't subscribe to Marquise just so I can watch Cubs/baseball although there is some content I do like. I can't believe our resident simpletons haven't blamed Trump yet
MLB blackouts are ridiculous. But there are ways to get what you want, for the most part. Our bar had Direct, we had their baseball package, in a sports bar. Guess what was blacked out? Yes, midwest regional games. We dropped that and then Marquise came along and was part of Directs package so that was good.
Phonetics, no matter how poorly spelled, are your friend.Because this is HBOT, I am compelled to point out that you misspelled marquis, which is a male member of the nobility, a step below a duke. A marquess is the female equivalent.
Marquee is the Cubs network.
You should try the MLB app as you wage your war against blackouts.
Cubs/cards/Royals/Brewers/Twins/the AAA team in Chicago.Maybe if MLB didn't have such ridiculous blackout rules they could address half the issues they are having. Aren't there, like, 6 teams in Iowa that get blacked out because of the stupid rules?
Yeah I’m sure the salary cap will get you to start watching. Give me a break.MLB sucks anyway.
Wake me when they put some sort of salary cap in place.
Maybe the Saudis just need to step in and buy all the MLB teams and begin the demise of MLB just like they have professional golf. American billionaires don’t have enough $$ to afford ballplayer salaries, anyway!Just follow the NFL model. A collection of NBC, CBS and FOX. Sprinkle in some Amazon, YouTube tv, TBS, MLB Network along with the regional broadcast.
well when you are a Pirate fan then yes It wouldYeah I’m sure the salary cap will get you to start watching. Give me a break.
Blame Nutting for being a terrible owner. What he did with Tellez last season ensures nobody will sign there as long as he’s in charge.well when you are a Pirate fan then yes It would
Small market teams cannot compete with the 6-8 teams that have the money.
So give me a break with the current format
ill give you Nutting is a terrible owner. That's definitely true.Blame Nutting for being a terrible owner. What he did with Tellez last season ensures nobody will sign there as long as he’s in charge.
It’s not about Tellez being awful. It’s about how he cut him days before he was going to get paid. A bunch of players took notice & made comments. Nutting is terrible for baseball.ill give you Nutting is a terrible owner. That's definitely true.
However Tellez was awful.
Yeah that was a crap deal. It’s not about Tellez being awful. It’s about how he cut him days before he was going to get paid. A bunch of players took notice & made comments. Nutting is terrible for baseball.
