I was listening to ESPN radio last night and I'm not sure who it was but he said "Michigan St had a huge win that keeps their Big Ten Title hopes very much alive". Then they started talking about the rest of B10 and as you could guess, same fella says Iowa faces too many tough opponents yet to have a shot.. HOW do these people get paid?? Iowa very well might not win the B10 but it sure as hell won't be Michigan St who beats them!

Also, listened to Gopher post game last night as I live in the TC area.. They also talked about MSUs title hopes and mentioned they'd be battling Maryland and Indiana for that first spot.. No mention of Iowa (not as surprised on this one).. Tollackson followed that up by saying the B12 is absolutely loaded this year as he started to talk about the Texas AM vs Missouri game.. It's just funny to me how little these people actually know!

For some reason I like Tollackson on the radio. He rips into the gophers all the time. Especially this year.

MSU has to win out to finish 14-4, which is usually the minimum number of wins needed to win it. and they would need Iowa to lose at least 5 of their last 12. That's a pretty tall order. But let's face it, it was a pretty ho-hum day in CBB yesterday. None of the top teams lost except Maryland and Arizona. They need something to talk about.

Who cares, let the disrespect or lack of recognition by some flow. Just like football, go out and prove it. It's like some Iowa fans tune in just hear it so they can go on a rant. I'm sure Iowa will get some good media on Thursday especially if they win today.

IOWA is currently a #1 seed from the USA Today's view and #2 at Joe Lunardi's Bracketology.
The boneheads, who the posters above claim, left IOWA out of the conversation for
Big10 championship, deserve to be called out.

You always get the talking heads that only see the bright and shiny objects. MSU and IU have the name. Fair or not. People who follow college BB closely are giving Iowa their just due.

Is Maryland a top team? They have zero top 50 RPI wins and we're almost in Feb, Iowa has six, possibly seven after today.

I guess my question is how would Iowa be viewed if we had squeaked by Penn St.and NW at home and @Wisconsin and then lost @ the two Michigan schools? Or, lost to MSU twice, lost @ Wisky and lost at home to Nebraska? If those were our resumes, where would we sit in the national talk or would we even be talked about at all? That said, winning will take care of everything.

But it just doesn't matter what these yay whose say. Who cares? Iowa will continue to prove it on the court, where it matters. When the hawks win the B1G and are a 1 seed in the tourney, they will all look like fools and we will be grinning from ear to ear.

It just doesn't matter what they say.

I don't think they're purposely slighting Iowa like during football, I was just blown away that they are "professionals" that literally don't know what's happening around them!

Including MSU in the topic is just force of habit. They have somewhat earned it as they are always in the mix. And who knows, they may regather and wind up winning the BTT.

Bottom line is these commentators, both pro and con, have nothing to do with how the Hawks perform on the court. It's always flattering to get the accolades, but, in the long run, we still have to prove it contest by contest.

Professional deniers... After Fran and company takes the B1G Ten and final four this year, they will be kissing Hawks' arsess next year!

Maryland may be "really talented," but I've never seen that category in the box score or on the scoreboard. We heard it all football season, and now we're hearing it again in basketball. If Iowa had Maryland's basketball resume, the talking heads would be falling all over themselves poking holes in it and calling out the weak schedule. But since "Maryland is really talented," it's a whole different scenario. It's SOP. Tune it out, cuz it ain't gonna change. Nor does it have any impact on the ultimate measure that we call wins and losses.

While nowhere near as talented as the 86 team (which should have won it all) this team can go a long ways. Now against the very best teams I do not know. Pure physical ability can sometimes overwhelm a team like ours.
That is pretty much what happened to the football team vs Stanford.

The good thing is that as veteran as our team is they will not panic; and the edge in experience will be huge in the tournament.
