ESPN2 again Saturday (Mowins alert)

I'm not as violently opposed to Beth Mowins as some folks who really seem to detest her commentary work. . . but I have to say it really irritated me that she brought up the possible upset about 1,000 times in the second half alone. Shoot -- every 5 minutes or so, she seemed to go back to the potential historic upset in the making. I can understand acknowledging the FCS-FBS angle, recalling the App State win over Michigan, etc., but after a while, it seemed like Mowins and ESPN2 were almost rooting for NDSU to pull it out so they could marvel at the history unfolding before them. Got extremely annoying.

You think a male pbp guy wouldn't have been doing that? Game announcers crave upsets.

It had nothing to do with her gender. As I said, I don't have a problem with her commentary like some do. But the obsession with the potential upset was out of control on Saturday.

My mom asked me later in the day if it was actually a female or a male doing the game. Had it on and was doing things so never saw the "booth" shots. Thought it was funny.
Anyway, I too got tired of the 'rah rah' for NDSU...obviously they were the better team, but still. Can't stand her.

I usually can't stand her, but I barely noticed her on Saturday. The few times I did, I was thinking that she must have been working with a voice coach because she didn't sound as bad as has in the past. Or maybe the game was so bad that she was the least of my concerns.

Apparently some guys get unhinged hearing a woman's voice on play by play. I've always thought she was pretty good. Saturday she had a lot better color guy than she usually does and that helped.

Wait, Beth Mowins is a woman? Man, woman, monkey or leprechaun, Beth Mowins sucks because she is terrible not because of her gender.

I felt like Mowins and ESPN were simultaneously playing up the "NDSU is a B1G-quality team" storyline AND the "this is an upset of historic proportions" storyline. The two angles kind of contradict each other.

It was annoying, but I was probably just p!ssed because of the numbers of the scoreboard.

Great, I can hardly wait to hear how Iowa lost to an FCS team every 5 minutes next weekend.
Sadly, you know the NDSU game will be brought up with great regularity. If we're losing, it will be all about how the NDSU loss shows we're just not all that good. If we're winning, it will be all about how great NDSU is to have come into our house and beaten us. Either way, it's going to be NDSU all the time on Saturday. I'll be surprised if they don't absolutely pulverize that dead horse from start to finish.

Over/under on how many times the NDSU QB scramble and winning FG is shown during the entire telecast: 3.5
