HUGE situation for him to step up. Really happy for that dude. Seems to be a team guy and letting the games come to him...maybe to a fault in previous games. When he was too quick to pass.

Really hope this is a springboard for him for the rest of the season.

He also led the team in the turnover stat with 5.

He just grabbed the starting spot. Although I wouldn't mind giving Joe T another start, but only for the experience of it...

Experience matters. I like the idea of a senior being out there to start. Especially when Bakari is shooting like that! Good D too.

That's all good for Joe T as well. He has plenty of time to grow into the position @ the B1G level... Learning from a veteran player does not hurt. Can only help the future of the team in this scenario.

Evelyn's drive and finish at the rim after Cincy's big run near the end of the game was the play of the game. Maybe he's found his role on this team and the more comfortable he gets with his teammates the more we'll see performances like tonight. I mean what he's only been around these guys for 4 mos.?

I don't know a lot about him, but thought I heard that he was the top player at Valpo. So he's used to being THE guy and the ball in his hands? Maybe he just needed more minutes and time at PG?

We say it a lot when Fran tries to go 12 deep in his rotations... Guys need time to get into the flow.

Evelyn also hit 2 threes early, that really got his confidence up. Obviously we'd like to see this out of him more. Someone has to take JBos mins and Bakari took 29 of them tonight!

Evelyn saved our bacon this game, hope this is a good sign going forward.
Kriener played well, and Pemsl supplied some good minutes.
Toussaint will live another day! The turnover bug effected everyone not just JT. Very unusual....
I was very worried about this game after seeing Cincy's play against Tennessee....not very many on here predicted 9 - 3 after the DePaul game:rolleyes:

I will eat a little crow on Evelyn, he was the key to the win. Yes, he had 5 TO's but the guy played 30 minutes and was his biggest action at the point by far. His 15 points were huge, including making all of his FT's and handling the ball well against an athletic team.

His conditioning appeared to easily be up to the task even having played very little so far.

Didn't realize he had 5 turnovers. One was that weird out if bounds save by Pemsl, where he was out of bounds when he caught it. He may have had another one where he stepped out of bounds?

Bakari played very well in a pretty big game/win. Totally agree that he was the difference maker. tonight.

Freshmen are freshmen. Joe T is going to have growing pains and tonight there were plenty. Thought he got tripped on one of those lost ball plays.

They might change the starting guards. Like to see Joe T get another start and a chance to redeem this game. But he might be too pumped and needs that first few minutes on the pine to kind of chill.

Bakari brings maturity, experience, leadership, and now a shooting touch to the team. Fran said he is familiar with and can play the 1,2, and can make 3's. Best of good fortune to him going forward.

Also I noticed a lot of guys slipping i the floor tonight. Seemed to get joe t. On his first two possessons.
Not everybody. Please don't kill the messenger on this, but Joe T. is slipping when he tries to come to a quick stop in EVERY game. He either slides his plant foot or slips to the floor. Is it his shoes? Literally he wears two or three different pairs every game. Last night he started the game in white and blue ones, and came out in the second half in those hideous purple and yellow ones on different feet ones. Dude only played like 2 1/2 minutes. Last game some green and black ones and different ones later. Are these shoes he's worn out on the blacktop? Fran even mentioned his shoes after the game in his interview with Shawn Morris, and it didn't appear he was all that happy about it either. I always thought the team bought the players whatever shoes they were comfortable in, but maybe thats not the case. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have seen some of the ones that JoeT has been wearing or that lime green pair that Pemsl wore the other night.
For the record, I don't care what Joe wears, just want to see him play smart winning basketball. It appears like some young players this is more about a fashion statement, just like some of the crazy shots he takes. Just settle down a little , and get in the flow of the game young man. He has plenty of talent, but seems to want to throw up something on 10 on the impress meter all the time.

I said this in a earlier thread about JBo sitting when taking about divvying up minutes.

In his prior appearances Bakari looked like he belonged on the court. He was doing things well on offense except he wasn’t looking for his shot and as such when he did shoot it he didn’t do it with confidence. Can you blame him when you have 3-4 great shooters on the floor with you at the same time? His ball movement and spacing were good. Plus his defense was good. He just was shooting like garbage in the limited shots he took.

Last night he had to be more assertive and hunt for his shots. First one goes in and his confidence goes through the roof. But he still knew not to force it. There was one offensive rebound that got kicked out to him wide open. But he knew CJ was wide open just to his right and is a better shooter, so he kicked it over for a nice assist on a 3 pointer.

I don’t think we want him playing 30 a game moving forward, but 25 or so could be very good if he keeps up the confidence. His minutes should help the defense though.

This right here. With moss leaving and Fran probably knowing good chance JBo shuts it down he knew he had to find a veteran guard for the backcourt. Even though didn’t play much early on I’m sure Fran knew later in year he would have to log more minutes for us like last night after JBo was done for the year.

Everybody contributed in the TO category. Lackadaisical passing and ball handling by all. Joe T. gets hip checked with no foul called which led to one of his turnovers. Shoes do seem to be a problem for him. Seems to slip a lot in every game he’s played.
